* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

There is a lot of sense in that. To keep the engine spinning near the peak torque is very efficient.
Personally, I think the near future will see more cars like the Vauxhall Ampera, with the engine driving a big generator, and all propulsion coming from electric motors.
Did JLR not talk about a gas turbine prototype recently? where the GT drove a generator to charge the batteries when needed.

So the option for no low ratio box like we see on the 'cheap' versions on the new RRS?

put in a nice eaton twin box, that would sort the men from the boys d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack
