10 Year Gearbox Service

With my car approaching its 10 birthday next month I know it is scheduled to have a gearbox fluid & filter change.
Car has done 135000 miles and soon after I got it Geoff. did a flush on it a year ago at 129k miles. The oil was in a reasonable condition being a decent brown colour with no burnt smell to it.

Question is should I drop the sump and change the filter or leave as is for another year and flush again?

Box appears to work fine with only a slight indecisiveness at around 1600rpm when only tickling the throttle and the box can't decide whether to change up or not.

What does the combined wisdom of the forum recommend, please?

From my personal experience only. Change the filter.

Cheers sputnixb51.
Indie wants £475 to do the filter change. Don't fancy doing that one myself on the drive.

If you had a flush a year ago, I wouldn't be doing another change so soon.

Pete K . I had had a flush on mine a year maybe 18 months before I then had such a violent judder that you would think the engine and gearbox were going to fall out, so I did my own Filo type flush including new filter the D3 has never been so smooth since I did it. Clocked around 10,000 miles since now at almost 148,000. That’s why I said my personal situation. I will fill flush again later this year.

Not when I did Filo flush, a very well regarded stalwart of This forum did the flush and did warn me that it was not infallible, at that flush there was redness but not a lot more suggestive of Dr Tranny than Dexron. There had been a gearbox oil change before 80,000 miles there may have been a partial change rather than a full flush the maintenance record does not give detail. As it has been smoother than ever since the filter change my own personal view is that the filter was so restricted that under hard acceleration the oil wasn’t getting around the TC and gearbox with enough flow causing pump cavitation and TC to be horribly out of balance. PS I should say the gearbox internals are spotless no particles non of that sort of grey gunge you see some of them coated in I also replaced the loom sleeve and seals whilst at it.
