10k Would you buy D3 or D4 ?
Hi All , Not posted on her for ages , Looking to get back in the fold after Previously owning 2D3s , my dilemma at the moment with a budget of around £10 ( Give or take a bit each way ) Is do I look for a really nice low mile D3 ? Or do I look for a D4 , What are your thoughts? Obviously a pay your money take your choice decision but the budget is sort of middle ground so do I stick with what I know with D3s or would I be better off D4 ?
if you're after an out-and-out workhorse I suspect D3 is right choice. D4 seems a bit more modern - but headlamps may be poorer and seat less comfortable from what I've read on here.
D4 drives better.

D4.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

For me it is a difficult one to answer.
Ultimately I think it depends on the condition, both mechanically and, in particular, wrt to corrosion in chassis and rear sills. A good, 'salt-free' D3 will have more life left in it than a poor or mediocre early D4.
My D3 is a very late example and will not get through another MOT due to corrosion. However, there are many older D3s which are better underneath than my wife's 2012/13 D4.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

D4.
Every day of the week. I’ve had 3 x D3s and one D4, the former were mostly utter cash-cows, the D4 was completely faultless in my ownership. Whilst I really miss my last D3, deffo wouldn’t have another one. Still mentally scarred from scrapping my old D3 2,000 miles from home. My folks have one of the last D4s, which similarly has been pretty faultless, they were talking about changing it but staying strong re adopting it.

Thanks for reply’s , At the moment I’m looking at a nice Landmark D4 , Done insurance quote today
With all the thefts around at the moment the affect on the premiums is something ridiculous, especially when you get to a certain age and have a clean license, Still not making a difference, Oh yes and just realised the £10 instead of 10k mistake , We can all hope !!

Having owned many Land Rovers over the years, I went for a D4 & love it. But... I also now have a D3.
If I was buying for a family run around, I would go D4. But if I was to keep it long term and do camping & overloading setup, I would now go for a D3.
I would use the saved cash to do a few upgrades.
I have also recently stripped a D3, in my opinion it's a better build. Plus the front end looks much better once kit is added.

Thanks for the info, After much deliberation and having 2 previous D3s, I Thought I had to get a D4 , So after what seemed like ages looking Brought this the weekend , 1 Owner Landmark with full History, 86000, Seems a nice spec, Haven’t had much time to play with it yet apart from a test drive and driving it home, Needs some front discs and pads by the feel of it and steering wheel is slightly out so probably 4 wheel alignment if anyone can recommend somewhere near me? Looking forward to having a tinker with it and that feeling or being back in a Disco
