12v behind the center console

Hi does anyone kno if I can put a cigar lighter plug onto a cb and plug it into the 12v behind the center console? Will it work? Will I have to put a larger fuse in it. I think the cb maybe 10 amp but I can't be sure as I have no box nore instructions either. It's an old midland iv had for ages. Cheers

Should have no problems with that, most mobile CB's old or new will only draw about 5 amps max.

Iv fitted mine on brackets off the point where the cubby box hinge is. Took out the two pins, put in a spacer then shaped the bracket round to the size of the cb. Will take a pic to show you

Shocked Ingenious, Why did'nt I think of that Thumbs Up , Mine is inside the cubby and I made a Small hole in the bottom of the cubby box then passed the Cig Power connector down through the cup holders...

I forget things, so decided to power mine that way to stop me forgetting if I leave it turned on and the lid shut.

this is how mine is installed

Yes i know its in full view, Thats no a problem in my eyes though. The red thing on the back of the CB is a signal booster. Not put aerial on as yet, it may work ok without it. I used it in my old off roader and it made a big difference to it. looks a bit of a mess on show I know but It will be take out when not in use. The cable ties will be changed too if I leave the boost in. Just going to tidy the wires up a little then i thinks its great. can be removed as though it was never in.

I hard wired mne into that power source rather than use a plug. Didn't need to uprate the fuse, works fine. Thumbs Up

Dickydisco,

I've been working on something similar, so I'm glad you have proved the hinge mounts work. How much does it flap about when off-road though?

There are also two similar screws down at floor level, behind little grilles adjacent to the seats. My idea is a frame a bit bigger than yours, reaching right down to floor level and fixed also to the lower screws. Then using a slide mount to fix an enclosed box to the frame - when the box lid is closed it conceals the contents, and can be removed when radio is not required. Suitable big holes in the frame then give access to the power and the vents.

I've got so much radio gubbins in the cubby box I can keep any cubs in it anymore, and the phone fouls on the knobs, so I need another solution! How do you think this idea will work? I'd like to use a commercially made box but I've not yet seen a suitable one? Any ideas folks?

Nav
didnt see the screws lower down but it sounds like a plan. The cb aint been in long, so as yet I dont know how much it will rock around. I did have a little think about making some supports some how. I will see how it performs nxt weekend, Im going round wales for some lanes. I have made sure it is tight and rigid.

Will keep you posted Thumbs Up
