Existing pumps have a pressure relief to lower pressure.

I guess these fancy ones may give a little more pressure at idle

Hi Pete

As u say ref the relief , extract from the workshop manual

The pumping element is an eccentric rotor, which is directly driven by flats on the crankshaft. An integral pressure relief valve regulates pump outlet pressure at 4.5 Bar (65.25 Psi).

Plus , These figures were kindly provided by Pete k Thumbs Up

20psi (1.4bar) on idle
50psi (3.4bar) when revved.

19.5 extra oil pump

Idle 1.2 Bar
@2,000 revs 3.5 Bar
@3,000 revs 4.0 Bar

Oil relief that’s at 4.5 Bar (65.25 Psi).

Bare minimum

0.50 bar (7.25 psi) at idle

1.0 bar (14.5 psi) @ and above 2,500 revs

With standard pump, at idle, you have 0,7 - 0,8 bar (warm oil), with Extra-19,5 you have 1,3 - 1,5 bar (warm oil)

Is there any scientific data/theory why the oil pump is better? I mean higher pressure isn’t automatically better...

I dont think you will see a noticeable improvement unless you have had a pressure gauge fitted before and after

Well these are news to me!!
I simply changed the oil viscosity from 5w30 to 10w40 when i got to 120k miles, now just passing 170k
As always nothing beats regular oil changes, diesel dilutes engine oil over time, especially when injectors are not there best anymore.

Interested to hear from those using this uprated pump Thumbs Up
I wonder what the induction side of the engine looks like after a few months using these higher pressures....especially on motors used around town, driving short distances with cold engines.....

Question

Hi guys,

Any measured pressure on the same engine, with rpm, oil temperature, oil pressure ; both with OEM pump and this 19,5 pump ?

I have noticed a significant pressure drop on my engine with oil temperature :

I am wondering whether these russian pumps can help increase engine life by increasing low rev's, high temperature pressure...

That IS why they developed it...

For your problem....... OEM pumps have a tendency for low pressure at low rpm and
to wear rather quick and cause your measured pressure issues..

So change them every 100k Km’s or this russian pump... depending on how long you want it to work/your budget..
 Best regards

For those thinking to get this 19.5 pump - I hope you know the current story with them?

People in Russia who bought these "upgraded" pump have started to report problems - it wears out pretty quickly with gaps appearing between star and outer part. Oil pressure drops even lower than stock LR pump. Their extra 50% oil pressure is just in the beginning of its life.

1. Stock pump (latest revision, part number LR123716) is now completely adequate for its purpose.

2. Pump internals - star ir made out of very fancy, specific, very pure metal mixture and its not machined or cast, its manufactured in a specific manner - by pressing. Apparently there are only few factories in the world who manufacture such products, so everybody buys from them. But this guy is machining them himself....

Please think twice before installing this home made pump in your engine.

If you want extra pump anyway, then get 3.6 tdv8 oil pump, remove internals and machine 2.7 pump case and fit 3.6 internals in there. But the cost....

Is the 3.6 pump internals different? Externally, they look very similar to the 2.7/3.0 pumps, and utilise the same crank seal and bolt...
