2007 D3 HSE value
Hello all,
I would like your opinions... I am looking at making an offer on a 2007 D3 TDV6. It has done approx. 170000Km, It is in nearly perfect condition except for one major issue... the TDV6 engine has had the oil pump break (timing belt) and so it needs a new engine.
I think that it is a HSE version (waiting to be confirmed)
I know the current owners, and I know that it has been REALLY well looked after, has NEVER been used off road, and has had every service done on time at LR dealer here in Luxembourg.
Can anyone give me an honest opinion what this D3 would be worth?
Thanks for your opinions.
Nick

It's worth scrap value, nothing more.
How much are you expecting to spend on an engine? ISTR these cars are worth not a lot in Luxembourg with an engine, without an engine it's worth the square route of naff all. Putting for a decent engine in it would prob cost far more than the car is worth. Don't make the mistake of thinking new engine = high value, it just puts you back to where you should have been. Plus the gearbox isn't far off new torque convertor or rebuild.

I don't honestly know what it is worth... that it why I am asking here.
The values of LRs here are actually very high (higher than the UK).
I know a place in Germany where I can get a nearly new TDV6 engine installed for approx £4500 all in (including collection and delivery) with 1 year warranty on the repair.
I currently have a 2008 RRS, and a 2002 FFRR td6.
What I am THINKING of doing is to replace the FFRR with the D3, but it all depends on getting it for a "fair" price. I don't want to make an insulting offer, but at the same time, I don't want to pay too much.

In the UK the car might be £7-8k with a good engine. Deduct the cost of fitting a "new" engine to arrive at a value. £2-3k taking your engine cost. Just be very wary of cheap / reconditioned engines.
As DSL says, sad though it may be, it's worth more as scrap...2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you regarding the pricing. I know that here a "good" D3 with average mileage is worth approx. 10-11000€.
A new engine will cost me €5500 including installation.
That would mean that the value in its current condition would be approx. €5000, but I think that this is too high because I would be taking a risk.
I am thinking of offering €3000 for it.
Do you think that this would be a reasonable price (for me, AND for the seller)?

If the vehicle is what is the remaining value for the seller? Does he want to look at it in the garage or get rid of it?
If you argue the vehicle is essentially scrap figure out what the cost for scrapping it is/what he can receive for selling it as scrap/whatever is relevant in Luxembourg. If you offer over that or above that value it should be a done deal as he doesn’t have to do anything like arrange collection.
If you pay €3000 for a POS the seller can forget, isn’t that doing a favor? Assumption being the seller doesn’t want to replace the engine himself.

Just to update this post...
The seller wants €4000 for the vehicle, so I have told them that I am no longer interested.
It would simply be too expensive to take the risk.
I pointed out that €4000 for the D3, €5500 for the engine, and I still don't know what else might be weak or have failed (turbo, EGR (although this would be replaced with the new engine), gearbox, transfer box, suspension airbags & compressor, diffs etc).
I have seen a couple of D3s for sale in Germany for €6000-10000 with similar specs and similar mileage, so I have told them that sorry, but I am no longer interested.

Thanks. I already know about autoscout and mobile.de as my two current cars car from there.
I wasn't actually looking for a new car. I currently have a RRS, and my wife has a FFRR. The FF has had some gearbox problems (Td6!!!!!!!) that were sorted in September, but it has been back for the same gearbox problem 4 times now, and I was starting to think about replacing the FF with the D3.
Anyway... I am not willing to pay so much on a car with a dead engine, so I have decided to walk away. No harm done at least!!
