If you think motoreasy will payout on a crankshaft claim or any other big price repair then you need to do some more reading.

They even wriggled out of paying for my handbrake module even though handbrake 'cables' & 'mechanism' are listed as covered.

I do get the feeling that most motor warranties are designed to have lots of loopholes in them.

The only one I've found to have some merit was the full fat Land Rover Approved Used, which I had for four years on my Disco. Pretty much anything that went wrong was covered (although what would have happened with a major failure I can only speculate). I had the "light" version for a year latterly and that proved to be of some use, although many things there weren't covered, or only in effect partly covered. I wouldn't recommend one.

Keeping the old girl going is, compared to most cars not cheap. That comes with the territory. And as it gets older, you will have to be prepared for a catastrophic failure. But of course, as we have seen these can happen at any time in their life.

Take heart that these failures are still pretty rare and you are driving a car that does exactly what you want. And remember, life is an adventure sometimes fraught with risks. Enjoy!

I fully expect to have to battle for any sort of payout on anything that goes wrong so im prepared for that.

a few years back I had a Warranty Wise warranty on a Freelander 2 with manual gearbox. Started to get bad vibrations through the floor and gearlever which my local indy diagnosed as DMF failure. Turned out the internal slave cylinder had blown a seal (not literally !! Laughing ) and leaked oil onto the clutch plate and DMF.
Garage stripped it all down for the WW engineer to inspect which he did, and confirmed it was covered. It then had to be reassembled and I had to wait 3 weeks for authorisation off WW during which time I had no choice but to continue driving it. WW then refused the claim stating as I had been driving it I had made it worse. The garage and their own engineer fought my case but they still refused. The final nail in the coffin was I had paid up front for the year but when I cancelled it after their refusal to pay out a small print clause meant they kept all my money.

I wouldnt trust any warranty companies as far as I could throw them but at least Motoreasy is a rolling contract I can get out of easily.

As above. If warranty direct are too much money there's no point in purchasing any other warranty imo

If I commit longterm I think I'd be nervous running the car with no warranty, it won't be too long before any major work required will be almost as much as the car is worth. Hate to be in the position where I've got an £8k D4 with 160,000 miles on the clock and the engine kisses goodnight.

If worst case its only 8k, less money than if you go newer surely. Buy from a dealer and you walk away with a car 4-6k less than you paid for it, plus the premium to upgrade it.

If your lifestyle hasn't changed would keep, minor differences between what you have and a MY16 anyways and they are all out of manufactures warranty now.

Must say though a lovely ride and nice place to be it is a somewhat dated motor now in terms of tech etc, even base cars coming with lane assist crash mitigation etc. Some are perhaps a little gimmicky but have found lane assist to be a lot less tiring on longer journeys

I have an 61 2012 8 speed, I've had it since July and in that time I've put about 10k worth of miles on it.
it currently travels around 500 miles a week and its such a lovely drive, I don't have mine covered, its got a good SH, and I intend on replacing anything as soon as its needed.

Other than that I just hope that it doesn't go bang Rolling with laughter
