MY 2014 Discovery Halogen Upgraded |
|
Hi All
Just a quick post to say, today I upgraded the OEM halogen projectors to HID using HIDS4U
55w HID kit.
Upgrade went smoothly. Sadly you cannot fit the 55w ballast in the OEM space under the light, they are about 5mm too big.
I've mounted mine behind the light assembly. No wire cutting, and I have run the light wires through the rubber cap on the back. I will get a couple of spare ones in case I have to drop back to halogens for the stealer at any point.
They work great, much brighter the the HIR2 halogens, had to tweak the aim of the lights down slightly as they were setup as possum spotters.
Not edited the CCF, though I could if anyone thinks it necessary ?? The new 2014 halogen light assemblies
have the shutter style high beams, so a great cut off.
The 9006 bulb kit fits into the 9012 HIR2 hole perfectly with no mods.
Very happy, as I was missing the xenon power from my old D3.
Contrary to other people I don'y think the 55w is too bright, though we are in the middle of nowhere so more power =good.
Hope this helps anyone considering the upgrade.
Cheers

Sorry to revive an old post but I am considering the halogen HIR2 to HIDS conversion. The standard halogens really are terrible and I struggle to see how LR fitted and approved them at the design stage! To add insult because they are HIR2's its not possible to find any Nightbreaker type bulbs to fit.
After 12 months did you ever change the CCF?
How is the kit performing?
Any issues worth mentioning?
Cheers

GDay, I did upgrade to one of HID4U kits, the brightest ones they do.
It is great, works well with the factory dip and mains.
Had no issues with CANBUS, and did not bother to change the CCF even though
I do own the iidtool .
The factory halogens are pathetic, do the upgrade!
If you can get slim ballast it will fit in the factory space on the headlight , I didn't and have the ballast stuck to the inner wing.
Hope this helps

I know this might not be the most suited thread for this question as mine is in relation to HIDs in a 06 d3. I have fitted HIDs to both dipped and high beam in my headlight although I was able to fit the ballasts inside the light unit. So there are 2 ballasts in each headlight. Yes, it is rather tight, and had initially been worried about over heating but they have been in there for about 4 months with no issues I know of. Is it standard convention to mount them externally?
