Thanks for the replies guys. Still looking for a new engine and have a good lead but started stipping it for a look as another kind member, in addition to mikey advised he'd stripped his engine with same fault as mine and damage was minimal. I started tonight but got scared with just the sheer amount of junk on the top, before you can even see the engine! Is there a guide anywhere as I'm frightened of breaking something as i may need all the bits for a new engine?

the fuel leak off pipes is the only thing to be careful with.
Start on the right side of the engine,
remove brake vacum pipe, remove 2 metal fuel pipes
remove front cam belt. (you could try and get it to TDC first)
remove EGR pipes to inlet (where fitted)
remove exhaust manifold off right bank
remove injectors RH
remove fuel rail RH
remove fuel rail bracket RH
remove cam cover RH
remove RH head
