Due next month. I've had a main stealer call to remind me and a quote of £687.49 (Listers, Solihull) with the comment that it is a main service and the Discovery is expensive !
A nice round number. Advice welcome please. Should I seek to negotiate and if so what's the view without wanting corners being cut?
Cheers

Definitely get alternative quotations, often dealers will price match . See if they will match Cambrian Land Rover in Aberystwyth

Yep, one of the reasons I am flogging mine and going for a DS, which is £499 5 year service, £130 tax and 50+ per gallon.
A comparison,
Wife's car - £399 5 year service plan and £30 a year tax, 75mpg.
Disco - average A and B services - £400 per year, £2,000 over 5 years. Tax £490 per year, 25mpg.
D4 to DS - I'd save £300 per year service, £360 tax, £1,824 per year diesel based on 10k miles. That's £2,484 per year or £12,420 over 5 years, NOT counting AA membership as my D4 is just out of warranty and you need something if you break down, also assuming the D4 doesn't need anything major done etc.
Anyway, with my part exchange D4, it's not costing me that to change, so it's a no brainer.

Not quite as cheap I know but a new D4 service pack is £699 and the tax is £290.
You'll miss it when you're in a DS !! Velar MY18 D180 S Narvik

Yeah probably if I got to drive it as much as the little wifey.
Thing is, do I wait until the new Disco 5 comes out and then find it starts at £50k or more for the poverty version?
It has to be more than the DS when you think about it or it would be in competition with their own brand. No point in pitching two 7 seater at each other. The DS HSE is early £40k's, so I think I am on the ball there.
The new D5 will look exactly like the DS, but slightly bigger. The DS looks like the Evoque and so on, so I am not sure there's much to be gained in waiting.

Funnily enough I had a DS while my D4 was in for second service at Duckworth in Boston (£565). It's the second one I've driven (first with the good old 2.2, this with the Ingenium).
I can only say "don't do it". DS is one of the most disappointing cars IMHO. Noisy, horrible dash, massive blind spots at the bottom of the A-pillars, crappy stereo, needed a map and compass to find 5th and 6th in the manual 'box. And the lieometer gave me 35.3mpg (albeit with a heavy right foot).
Getting back into the D4 was bliss. Floating along. And with a light right foot I managed 34.6mpg on the exact same route back. So less than 1mpg difference (OK, I realise 28mpg is more real world).
And given that the biggest running cost of any car is depreciation, it's madnesss to chop your D4 in for a DS just to save a few quid on petrol and tax.

I am mad then. I quite liked the car when I had a test drive. Anyway, deal is done, I'd loose my £1k deposit if I backed out now.

Freelander *much* nicer than DS.
Legally I think you get can your deposit back, so all is not lost
