Hi
ive been on the FL2 forum for a number of years and a number different FL2
A friend is looking for a Disco 4 to buy, and has asked me what the differences are between the 3.0 TDV6 and 3.0 SDV6 engines are.
This is one that's caught his eye.
https://www.avenuecarsales.net/search_page...amp;price=
I know the SDV6 has slightly higher BHP and apparently that engine has known crankshaft failure problem that warranties wont cover but apart from that im flying blind on D4.
Any suggestions please ? (besides the obvious one of T and S )
TIA

That's one of the earliest D4's
TDV6 was the early MY's description with the 245 BHP engine and 6 speed auto
Sometime (ISTR) in late 2010 / early 2011 the 245 BHP engine and 6 speed auto description changed to SDV6
Again, not 100% sure, but I think in early 2012, the SDV6 got the extra 10 BHP and an 8 speed Auto.

To all intents and purposes, it's the same engine, crank failure just as likely (or unlikely, depending on how you see it!) in both.

I believe TDV6 does not have a DPF and the SDV6 does but as always I stand to be corrected. Stu

thanks for the quick replies.
so the biggest differences are the extra BHP and in most SDV6 the 8 speed box with rotary gearknob and flappy paddles ?
id already told him that particular one hes looking at is one of the first D4, as he was also looking at a very late Disco 3 HSE for similar money.

a bit like the FL2 in around 2010 then when they switched to Euro 5 with DPF and introduced the SD4

Thanks to Adam for the brochures, much appreciated
they have helped the decision for him to look for a 2012> XS spec at a price hes willing to pay.

I've just upgraded from a FL2 to a D4. Always wanted a Disco. Couldn't justify it until now. Absolutly loving it....read that as 'no problems that have cost lots of money ..yet'.
Just don't explain some of the justifications to SWMBO.
She might not agree with the way i justified it.. MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone
MY10 D4 XS Buckingham Blue

Always worth having a look at the For Sale section here:
http://disco4.com/forum/fs-discovery-3-and-4-vehicles-vf86.html
The Disco4 is a great car but it will drink diesel like it comes from a bottomless well and things will go wrong that will cost alot but......... there are some owners who very very very quietly confirm that they've not had any serious problems (always said very very quietly because if she hears then.......... ) Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector
Limo Tint
Blackvue front & rear dashcam
Cruise control switch pack
Bodsy's remote for FBH

Sadly I am very seriously thinking of jumping ship.
My circumstances have changed, kids no longer at home, don't do the miles for work anymore and I'm struggling to justify the maintenance charges, fuel and tax bills and the constant nagging doubt that something will break, when basically virtually every journey is just me sat by myself
Priced up a Golf GTI performance last week and I'm very tempted

^ I've had a Disco for over 13 years and never been off road
Mad Performance = Mad costs in my world, hence smaller car thoughts
