300 miles trip this weekend - impressions |
|
Just been through my first longer trip with my 2000 miles - 3 months old TDV6 SE Auto and here are my impressions.
Around town I get 17-18 mpg no matter what. Through this 300 miles trip I succeeded to get 25.6mpg. It’s a figure I would expect in urban conditions. The other problem is speed. It was very hard to reach 105 mph. Up to 75 mph the car’s OK. Beyond that it’s almost impossible to double. The rpm go up but the car doesn’t follow. It was disappointing. Tried sport mode but no joy. My wife was wondering if the turbocharger was working ok. And the ride was all wobbly… Avoiding an obstacle at higher speed sends everybody all over the place. Another thing. It was -10 Celsius outside. I find the heating of this car to be weak. I thought it was feeble because I was driving round town most of the time, but now with the hot engine and the dials up to 25 degrees it was barely tidy. I wonder how they did the “testing†in Finland or wherever. To leave on a positive note, the space inside and the awesome large windows were highly appreciated.

I don't I'd want to go over 100mph when it was -10 Maybe the car is cleverer than you think, and restricts its top speed when it too cold

We don't get that cold, but during the recent spell of 0 and below I found the car well toasty.
We too get around 18 round town but 25 on a run when you are trying to beat the ton sounds pretty reasonable.
You are only going to get great mpg if you stick to a steady 55 or so. Had to drive to the South of France in our BMW 2.5 litre at that speed due to a wheel problem and we got 50 mpg average. Bloody boring tho'
