4 Lt v 6 plugs

Ok this might sound dumb but I serviced tbe old girl and replaced rear pads and heater hoses on tbe weekend, go me. Thought I’d replace the plugs with the nice new ones from Rimmer brothers. Is there a special tool or technique I’m
Missing here ? Despite being bloody awkward to get a socket on and angled oddly I got said socket on ok but after applying some force and not getting any movement I downed tools for fear of breaking a plug off, am I missing something?

They don’t put any grease on them from factory.
Some greases can make it worse.

Try getting the engine very hot and then remove an easy location one firsy

Drivers side comes out easy, passenger side a PIA. Done mine twice now and break the passenger plugs each time Embarassed . I even use a socket with rubber inside to hold the plug (its the angle of the plug in the head). Once they break, I use an airline to blow all bits out prior to removing whats left, which is the metal bit.

How often should the spark plugs be changed?

I've done approx 60,000 km in my V6 petrol and have never changed them in my ownership (D3 has just ticked over 160,000km and probably the factory fitted spark plugs).

Thanks Blake [/s]

It depends on the plugs that are in there. Iridium plugs are good for around 100 to 200 thousand km, Platinum plugs are good for around 100 thousand km, Copper plugs are good for around 60 to 70 thousand km. You could take one out from drivers side to check the type. If the engine is running and starting okay then its a fair chance that the plugs are reasonable.
I use Ford plugs (platinum) in mine and change at 100 thousand km.
