4000 miles in 4 weeks, great car.

Well, the car has done me proud this summer.

An April trip to the Alps went well, and I have done 2 trips to the Alps in the last 4 weeks. So thats 4000 miles in 4 weeks, at constant high speed(90 to 100 Mph) then miles and miles up mountains. The last trip was 4 adults, 2 German shepherds and a Thule back up box, and at times 6 adults in the car.

Couldn't have been more comfortable and smooth!

Great car

I'm not sure I could do that trip twice in 4 weeks..

Driving to the Alps breaks me.. I'm fine getting down there, then half way back I want to be home already Rolling with laughter

I covered 2k over two days during a four day period on the continent last year and the longest stretch was 800 miles on one day, mostly autobahn and it was a pleasure.
Spent most of the time in auto cruise at quite high speeds !! and still got over 30mpg.
That mpg dropped considerably during the last few miles from Dover to my home in UK.
When driving my D4 it is just like sitting in my favourite armchair and when the road allows it, in cruise control, just as enjoyable. It is certainly less tiring than driving any of the vehicles I have had previously.

I'll do about 2500 in the next two weeks. We drove from Bath to our French home in one hit on Friday (760miles). The old bus passed the 210,000 mile mark on the way and regularly sat on the motorway between 90-100mph. For a 12.5 year old car fully laden, with bikes on the back, she carried us all in exceptional comfort.

I was also suprised how many D3 / 4s were on the train heding on holiday. I counted 12 in our queue. I also saw this forum member waiting for the next train. No idea who he was but his outfit was colour coordinated with his Discovery.

Anyway, the old bus is now working hard moving furniture, collecting building materials and ferrying the family between restaurants. LR really did create an exceptional vehicle with the D3/4. Its a tough act to follow.

I'd like one of those back up boxes, if it weren't for getting the dog in and out. How did you manage?

If they are anything like the Thule bike racks, they can be folded out of the way whilst still on the tow bar to gain access to the boot.

I also agree. I drove from Surrey, to Grimsby on Friday, then back to Surrey on Saturday evening. 10 hours driving in 24 hours due to traffic etc. Great machines Thumbs Up

We didn't use the tailgate, we let them in and out via a back door with the seat folded up. Couldn't have been easier.

My dogs are quite big and they found it MUCH easier to get in and out that way than via the tailgate. Even in access mode its quite a jump up and down from the tailgate.

Put it this way, even when we don't have the box on the back, I will be using a side door. Much happier doggies!

A proper event. Thumbs Up I wonder if the D5 could do a G4 event these days?

A rav 4 could do a G4 event...

The G4 reminds me a bit of top gear after "they" left... flashy, gimmicky, better music, better events and really better everything... but it's just not top gear is it?
