6th gear, and sinking seat

Does anybody with a manual gearbox have difficulty changing down from 6th to 5th gear. My gear lever springs in to 3rd from 6th. If i want it to go from 6th to 5th i have to guide it in. I asked my dealer to check the gearbox and they said that it was normal, and i should change down from 6th in to neutral then in to 4th rather than 6th to 3rd.

Also, i think that the problem of a sinking drivers seat has previously been discussed. My seat sinks down, and i told the dealer that i thought Landrover had designed a new seat base to overcome this problem. He said that he was not aware of a problem with a sinking drivers seat and the only change in design was for electric seats. Has anybody got any information on either of the problems so i can go back and challenge the dealer.

Yup, found that my self.
Shifting down from 6th, is best done by going directly to 4th.

Go and quote this TSB at your dealer: LA501-021 Manual Seat Adjustment

The gear issue is a tricky one, I had (along with others ISTR) difficulty engaging reverse, it's still not perfect but 90% of the way there. According to the paperwork to fix it my dealer (the second one, the first one just made it worse!) uploaded the latest software to the powertrain module, added an additive to the gearbox oil and greased the gear linkage

Andy sounds like your dealer is full of cow dung............I'm on my second D3 and had absolutely no problem changing from 6th gear.and I also had the sinking seat problem which was fixed by Yeovil Landrover as per the fix that Slimer has previously mentioned. Wink

No gearbox issues here either - a very good box in my book.

My seat base replaced and now the seat does not sink. Height lever is VERY much stiffer now too which helps avoid accidental movement when you slide out of the seat on exit.

Your dealer should replace the seat base on customer complaints as per the GTR doc.

Have your sw upgraded to the latest all round too... patch 2 is a god send for manual D3's She zips along now very nicely !

Feels plenty powerful now pulling much harder than before.
