Had my Discovery serviced at above milage recently (75k Miles/120k km's). i have just noticed from looking at the maintenance check sheets in the wiki, that both the Transfer Box oil and Locking Diff oil should have been changed, which they indeed have not, as nothing on the invoice!
Question is could i get away with not changing untill the next service, or should i have a go at my dealer for not carrying out the work, bearing in mind, it is the dealer that has done majority of the servicing bar the first one.
Or am i better off purchasing the correct grade of oils and get a competent mechanic to change?
any comments appreciated.
Cheers peep's.. 07 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial (Java Black) with:

Go back to them and ask them if they did it, and if they didn't, then why not?
It's in the schedule and they should do it, I sure as hell wouldn't be paying MORE money to buy the fluids and then pay someone to do it when LR should have done it as part of the service! 2014 D4 XS

Pom, Cheers for that!
J@maes: im looking at the invoice now and other than the oil used for the engine oil change the invoice contains nothing in relation to the other said oils.. and plus its certainly not like they done the work and didn charge for it, never be that lucky!!
anybody else out there simlar to pom, where LR have just done the diff oils. if only id seen this check sheet before now.. 07 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial (Java Black) with:

Sounds like they have been dumb.
BTW - Item 32 locking diff oil really refers to the rear diff lock (optional extra) as the centre diff lock oil is covered under item 30.
If they demand more money for the labour I would tell them you rang round to get the best price for the 75K service, hence you wouldn't of used them if it was any dearer.

Cheers Ian G. Not a happy camper to say the least! i take it my disco has not got a rear lock diff then if it was an extra, as mine is base spec!
what grade oil is the transfer box oil does anybody know, and what quantity will i need?
thanks again.

The grade of oil is kept secret and is only available through landrover. 2 litres are required, part no. IYK500010 around £18 for each 1 litre bottle or cheaper if you buy through TLO. I've just changed mine, around half hour job if you've got good access. Regarding rear diff lock it would be very unlikely you have it if your vehicle is base spec.

Via the WIKI pages (found at top of each page). Eventually you can navigate to it under 'maintenance'.
A quick link is given below

Land Rover use CASTROL SAF XO in front and real differential (locking: SAF XJ). You can buy this oil in original 1L Castrol bottl in BMW dealer for better price (for example: in Poland 40% less) LR3 4.4 V8 Chawton White, 20" wheels for summer and 18" for winter
