What symptoms do you see that a flush will cure? Or is this more of a preventative measure? I thought that these gearboxes were sealed for life?

I have noticed recently that if I leave her parked outside overnight and its cold weather she seems to hold on to the gears longer until it gets warmed up, which all my Discovery's have done, but once it has warmed up its as smooth as it always has been.
I had my last D4 6 speed done by Geoff, that was more preventative, but it did make the changes noticeably smoother and it had the same mileage on as I do now. The colour of the old oil was black.
I know LR say they are sealed for life, but ZF do say to change the oil. As I tow a large tintent quite a bit I thought I will have it changed more for peace of mind, but there are a lot out there who don't bother. I think it comes down to your personal preference at the end of the day.

Just bought a disco 4 with an 8 speed box at 63k. Can anyone recommend a service / flush and approx cost I n reaching distance of Wigan.
I got stung on my disco 3 and ended up forking out big time. Dont want to make the same mistake again.
All advice is great fully received.
Thanks

Had the box flushed today at JAS and what a difference, silky smooth changes, just notice the revs drop its that smooth.
Tried them after being recommended by another forum member and can thoroughly recommend them, really know their stuff and very professional

Just had flush done on 70k 2015 8 speed. Mine was expensive (see another thread I started a while back) but goodness what a difference. Makes me wonder how the gearboxes can possibly be sealed for life when you can make such a difference by flushing. d4 HSE

Is this the thread to which you referred?

What please did you pay in the end for a flush &, presumably, genuine ZF fluid & filter?
I too am in Hampshire & wonder whom you used?
My current inclination is to travel to Geoff. when the time comes, but it's a fsir way off yet.

Yes that was the one.
Genuine LR ZF fluid cost £399 +Vat alone, retail price £516+ Vat.
Didn't replace the filter, it was either oil and filter change, or flush alone that was suggested.
Done at Keith Gott at Alton. I have always found them very helpful, knowledgeable and reasonably priced which was why I queried the price on here when I first got it. Their view is that many people don't use the genuine replacement oil and that is a false economy. I may have been had, I may have made a good decision, I don't know for sure but the car feels so much better and if anyone has the money, I recommend it.
Total price £617+VAT including courtesy car. d4 HSE
