May be a stupid question, but want to add roof rails to the D3. I've seen instructions to remove the black metal strip by removing the plastic retaining pins. Mine does not have these and is a solid black metal strip front to back. Can I still remove some how to fit the rails?

I have seen a few D3 with them strips with no plastic plugs covering mounting points for short or long rails
I would guess you have to remove them in full length and but short front section of that metal strip

I think Powerful UK had a video of fitting their extended roof bars which may help.

They're held on by concealed friction clips and a little bit of sticky foam at the front where it meets the windscreen surround. They do just pull off.
To fit roof rails, you'll need to cut down the strips to an appropriate length. If you're fitting extended rails, you'll also nee to drill a hole to correspond with the mounting point on the lower forward part of the roof. Darren

I have just fitted roof rails to my discovery 3. As mentioned the rails use nylon clips. I found start at back of rail, lift gently and each clip will spring out, it tucks slightly under windscreen rubber. There are tight nylon/rubber plugs in each tapped screw hole where the rails mount. I found a flat screwdriver pushed in the centre of plug allowed it to be unscrewed rather than try to use a knife blade. You will need to cut and retain/use the forward section of rail when fitting. There was fair amount of dirt each side mine. Hope this helps?

Hi, old thread I know, but when trying to fit roof rails to my 2007, the bolts seem to tighten up well before the rail is a snug fit. It leaves nearly 10mm of a gap. Anyone else run into this issue? Got so frustrated working back and forward at it all day I actually just went at it and kept tightening one of the bolts to see if I could get it down snug....snapped the bolt of course. Now I’ll have to start abd extract it too.
The rails and fixings were off a similar age salvage vehicle
