Admiral Car Insurance

Good Evening All,

Just after some advice please.

I have been with Admiral for the past 6 years and they have always been the cheapest with the extra modifications I have. However just got an email from them saying they no longer cover any modifications that are not offered by the manufacturer. Apparently this has been their policy since October 2017 but yesterday was the first I have heard of it as my renewal came through (in a separate email).

I have two issues with this:

1) does this mean that my mods have not been covered since Oct '17 or does this not apply to existing insurance until renewal? If so I am Censored they did not tell me.

2) The renewal I have received is one alot more expensive than I think it should be but two it still has all of my mods listed as being covered?

I have of course emailed them to query all this (I am unfortunately out the country atm so can not ring).

So if they wont cover me then I am looking to move my insurance else where but everyone else when looking last year seem to be considerably more expensive.

Has anyone with Admiral experienced this mod change?

or Any suggestions on who to try for insurance? I have already sent a message to A-plan to see what they can do as I have other insurance with them but for the D3 they always came back double the price apparently due to my age and SWMBOs age.

Advice appreciated as always Bow down

Can't say anything for the mods as I have none, however

Have been with admiral for 5 years, we have 3 cars on the multicar policy.
I was paying under the £200 for my Disco 3 but at renewal that jumped £50 for no apparent reason.
When I called them to remove to Disco, they then had to re-calculate the other 2 cars as there would be a rise in premium, was about £30 if I remember correctly.
I then asked for a new quote for the Disco with an increase on mileage and this came in cheaper than my renewal, so the Disco was again added to the Multicar policy BUT........they then had to recalculate the other 2 cars are they was more of a discount.

So my telephone call ended up saving us around £85 from the original quote

Confused dot Com no Admiral Mr. Green

My renewal came in at £190 more which is not acceptable.

Normally I would ring and discuss it all with them but unfortunalty I am way at work and I can’t.

Also I am surprised with the cost hike seeing that according to their own emails they don’t cover modifications anymore and if that is the case and the modifications cover is removed from my policy the price should go down not up.

Hopefully they will reply to my emails tomorrow Thumbs Up

I have 3 cars on Admiral Multi-Car, renewal came through last month, price increased by nearly £457 - after getting bored on gocompare etc. as couldn't get all cars cheaper. I called Admiral - one phone call, 15 mins, no hard haggling, very helpful representative, £710 reduction - cheaper this year than last and overall cheaper than messing about on the price comparison sites.

Really annoys me that insurance companies take this very customer negative tactic.

Why can’t they just give us a realistic renewal 1st time, instead of trying to rip us off!

Reckon its called business

Energy Companies

Phone & Broadband Companies

etc etc all do it.

I've saved over £200 on my bulk gas deliveries this year for sending 1 email to guy who does all the leg work.

These companies prey on loyalty and hope that customers cant be bothered to look around for deals.
I jump ship every year for the energy and phone, don't mind spending a few hours on the phone, usually worth it.

Insurance is rarely sold as a service it is a commodity hence these vast price variations.

Before accepting any renewal check with independent Brokers and comparison sites every year without fail, site sponsor on here is a good start.

Always check what you are getting for your money and double check the excess payments if the price seems very cheap in comparison to your renewal.

Voluntary and Compulsory excess are added together for a total excess payable, the amounts are often the same giving the impression that the excess stated is lower.

Always opt for Legal Expenses on any policy. This covers uninsured losses in the event of a non fault incident, excess payments, damage to personal items.

It's not fair if you don't know certain aspects of this industry.

I always dread renewal time as have a couple of motorbikes, a d3 and a company car where my no claims sit.
I trawl the comp sites making sure I have the same excess etc and usually have a small group that come out top price wise.
I then look at pay out and complaint issues.
There isn't much point save g £100 to then find they don't lime paying out

Admiral renewed my policy last month with no comment about the declared mods.

They did want to hike my premium from ~£220 to ~£280 because I declared attending a speed awareness course.

When I told them it wasn't acceptable, they put me on hold for 5 mins then offered me ~£250.

Told them to think again, back on hold, then offered ~£230.

Told them to get stuffed, still £10 too much.

Renewed at original quoted price.

They are just ****.

I wish NFU would give me a decent quote, they insure my other land rovers. They've insured my Ibex for about 15 years I think!

As I understand it, you don't have to declare any attendance at speed awareness courses unless the insurer/broker specifically asks about it?

You don't, which is why admiral specifically ask about it on their renewal proposals.

"Legal Expenses Insurance" covers the legal fees to persue the recovery of the uninsured loses.

It doesn't 'cover' the uninsured losses.
