Advice please - Reverse & 1st Gear Screamin' at me!!
Hi All,
I've had a look at a good few threads on EPB faults etc but can't seem to find an answer for my problem (but probably don't know what I should be looking for ) - Anyway, whenever my 08 Discovery 3 Manual has been asleep and I start her up and try and put her in either Reverse or 1st Gear, she starts literally screaming and the Park Brake Fault comes on. I have to turn her off again and turn her back on, and then everything is ok.
(And I do see the potential for numerous jokes )
Coincidently, there's a mad squeal from the rear wheels when I do get moving and at very low speeds,so I'm guessing the rear brake pads are on the way out, so could there be a connection?
Is this something serious, as my warranty is about to expire in a few weeks
Any advice / info much appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave.

You're Manual and you have Drive Away Park Release enabled.... You screeming is the Electronic Park Brake (EPB). Get it sorted NOW before the actuator is knackered and you add another €600 to the price to fix.
Handy with a spanner? then use my Brake Bible to remove the disks and clean & check the EPB shoes. Look in the link in my sig. Bodsys Brake Bible

Cheers Bodsy
Booked in with the local Dealer for the once over and they gave me a quote of €200 to replace the rear brake pads, so I think I'll be having a look at your Brake Bible and giving it a go myself
Can you recommend any particular pads to get? I'm comming up to 40K miles so I reckon they'll need changing soon anyway and will I be ok with the standard jack to remove the wheels? (Just read your Bible, so i know what I need )
Thanks again for the quick reply
Dave.

I'd recommend you get BOTH rear wheels in the air at the same time if youre dong the EPB.
They're Brake Shoes for the EPB btw, not pads, just so you have the right bits.
Pads are for the normal brakes, not the EPB.
Have only seen LR Genuine EPB Brake Shoes, but you can get many different brake Pads. Just go with the usual brake component suppliers & you should be fine
When you say Standard Jack, do you mean the LR supplied one.... If so, then don't bother as it is more likely to fall down on you, it's a significant health hazard IMHO and should only be used in an absolute emergency.....Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks again Bodsy
Had a quick look through your Bible and looking at what I'd need, to do it right (and safely ) I think I'll get a quote off the local Indy and see if it'd be cheaper that hireing what I need.
And when I actually thought about how heavy the Disco is, I kinda guessed the standard jack just wouldn't cut it

You were spot on Bodsy - actuator is on the way out
But when I called up on Wednesday to collect the Disco while they order the part in, the Park Brake seized up and they couldn't move her. They have now had to cut the hand brake cable and also order that in (is that right?, I was still in shock when the said they had to 'keep her in', so i'm not sure if I heard right ) , so I'm on me todd until next monday at the earliest and the two courtesy cars are 'out' so they can't offer me a replacement
Thanks again for the early diagnosis though
Dave

They should have been able to use the emergency park brake release cable. If not, then I would have thought that they woiuld have tried to get teh shoes to move to the Mount position.
