Advice pls - Restricted Performance - blowing back of engine

Hi guys, done a load of miles recently in my MY11 XS SDV6. Has 127k on it, runs really well, until the other day. Pulling away from a junction I heard and felt like what felt like something give RP came on the dash. I pulled straight over and plugged in my IID tool, no error code. Clear all and it goes. I carry on, go to overtake, car goes into kickdown and error light back on. Seems to happen under acceleration.

I read everything I could on here and cleaned the MAF's with proper cleaner and looked at the top pipes, all seem in tact.

Been happening again this evening, drove home and it felt sluggish, so got home and got the wife to blip the throttle whilst I listened to the engine. Lots of whooshing of turbo (more noise than normal) and some dust / smoke blowing up from the driver side rear of the engine area. Still no error codes for the engine.

Any ideas guys. Hoping not Inlet manifold as I doubt you'd get more whoosing from the turbo. Is there a pipe on or near the turbos that could have popped off or split?

Really do not need a massive bill on this at the moment. Any advice would be greatfully received and anything people can arm me with before I go to see a garage (knowledge is power!) would be amazing.

Thank you all in advance.

Could be the medium sized intercooler hose. It did it on mine in 2017 whilst in Spain. I still managed to drive it home but it kept going into limp under hard acceleration with light coming on the dash. I had to plug Iid tool in and clear it but eventually made it home. Very similar symptoms thats why I mention it Thumbs Up

Sounds similar to what happened to mine - turned out it was the CSOV initially (but with lots of fault codes) and latterly a very small leak in the Inlet Manifold (failed O ring - with no codes).

CSOV cost about £500, O ring about £2 - so good luck

What about the cross over pipe. Do D4s suffer with these splitting?

Cheers guys, greatly appreciated.

No work on gearbox, it's been running perfectly. There is obviously something blowing from the drivers side back / rear side of the block. Just hoping it is a pipe and not the Inlet Manifold (been told it is 7hrs labour....).

Mark, where is that pipe, could it be in the vicinity of the smoke / blowing i describe? I have taken off and checked the top pipes and they are fine. Can I get to it easily? Like you, I keep my IID dongle in the car and when RP comes on it resets immediately when I Clear All faults, even though there is not one showing.

When it first went it felt like something going pop. Surely a manifold would not feel like that all of a sudden. (praying).

Thanks all again in advance

@aerialmark is this the pipe you are talking about. MAF to Turbo. This is where the blowing is coming from.

Can I get to it easily to change without a ramp?
