Aftermarket Privacy Glass - any good? |
|
Ive been offered a vehicle which hasnt got the factory privacy glass but the dealer have told me that they have no problems with a retrofit and that the quality is as good.
Has anyone had it done or should i stick it out for a factory fit?

Hi, we had ours done before we collected it from the dealer.
The price was the same as it is in the options sheet, and yes looks good and no problems with it. Welcome to the Global Warming Corner.

I preferred to wait for the longer delivery time for a D3 with factory fit smoked glass rather than a short delivery time on a non-tinted model with aftermarket film. The clincher on this descision was seeing 3 or 4 year old vehicles with film on the windows; sunlight causes degradation of the adhesive leading to bubbling / delaminating.

We purchased the demo Sport which didn't have privicy glass, so the dealer got the aftermarket film fitted for us. It is a very very good job. I would have no problems going for this again. We paid cost price (apparantly) for it, so got it less than the privicy glass option.
You also get a lifetime guarantee, so if there is any problems while you own the car, then it get's redone.
Obviously, there are film fitters and film fitters. If you let your dealer do it, they should get someone they have used many times before and have experience of their work.
I must say, with ours you wouldn't be able to tell that it has film fitted. You cannot see the edges anywhere - even when you wind down a window. They do take all the trims and side panels off to do the job. Matt

paul sorry but i have to disagree mate, i have had a couple od vehicles now with film and 3/4 years later they were still PERFECT. i have had film fitted to my d3 and it looks ace. as stated above there are film fitters and film fitters all i would say is use someone who has good experiance and look at some work they have done
cheers shawn bali blue disco 4 with rear dvd's, privacy glass, pre heat system, heated steering wheel, full size spare, piano black trim, ipod cable, 20 inch wheels and i love it loads more than my TDV8 RRS, KTM 250 EXC 2 Stroke for the real off road stuff
