coil conversion

Hi Guys, have read all comments re Coil conversion but have found nothing regarding the operation of the Diif locks. Question : If I convert to Coils, does this affect the Dff Locks working as before?
Have been having a lot of trouble with the air suspension recently and now at the stage of spending similar amount on maintenance of the air as it would cost me for complete conversion to coil springs.
Having an old D3 in this country can be a problem and I think I would be more calm if I were on coils when in the middle of Bots than "old" air springs although I have loved the ride.
Safe and happy driving to all.

So,

From my enviable position as an uneducated and rather new disco owner, I’ve been watching this youtube vid

https://youtu.be/FcTTPV9JmIE

Start at about 43 mins in, but i found the whole thing great!

From my ‘novice’ perspective, this is where I’d keep air suspension over coils.

More to go wrong, I utterly agree, but when they work looks like they would seriously help.

Still, I think I have many more years of learning ahead now I’ve finally broken out of the Waitrose car park 8)

Just replaced my old air struts for new ones.

Such a massive difference in ride comfort. The old ones weren’t awful but age had taken their toll on them.
4 lovely new air struts has it back to its magic carpet ride.

No Zebadee legs on my car. Thumbs Up

Update

My post showing raised front was “fixed” after 3 days finding wiring fault in front left 6 weeks ago £950, now after getting a ride height sensor replaced today £355 I’ve just been told the replacement compressor I fitted 2 years & 13,000 miles ago £1,000 my yellow fault light is still on & ive been told it needs another compressor.......

Suspension conversion kit will cost £1,080 & I’m seriously considering it as I’m fed up with this air suspension melarky......

To break that down as I’m not 100% sure on it.

You’ve paid £950 for a wiring fault.
£355 for a height sensor?
£1000 quote for a compressor?

That seems rather expensive fir what you’ve had done, compressors can be had for half that amountvand it’s <1hr to change in your driveway with a cup of tea.

I simply did it for long term reliability. I envisage an ageing D3 will have enough troubles so far I have done upgraded new Torque converter, EGR valves, Inner front CV boots, replaced calipers and discs, replaced 12v sockets with USB's, Fitted coil overs, replaced Anti-roll bar bushes. That's my first year of ownership ex police immaculate service history. passed MOT first time in September. I plan driving to the far east when I retire among other exotic remote places so hence as many fail safe modifications as possible. I had criticism about it being a Defender but I can assure you after taking my Camel Trophy 110 to the Red Square the D3 is far more comfortable, and I don't mind reverting back to Defender technology in the running gear at least it was bullet proof. mine will still be with me in another 10 years!!! Will yours?

i think that you is right and thank you for show to us your conversion each one does what he thinks is best in his car thank you if have more pic show please

Just returned from a 3680 mile trip over 3 weeks doing roadbook 28 and 29 Granada to the french border.

On coils in comfort and handle impeccable and predicatively. I even had to us rock crawl mode for the first time!! Ohh yes I still have all my Special Functions, even got a front wheel in the air over a wash out. In fact I could not see any advantage of the air when I did this last year! So now you can put all your myths to rest. The other major upgrade was V8 brakes with upgraded discs they got very hot on some downhill sections of tarmac.

The only fault I had was a stuck on handbrake in the middle of nowhere!! even pulling the cord had no release. My iid tool did the job re calibrating the EPB been ok since. Now back I will clean the EPB components and adjust.

Definitely fit for purpose
