Air Con - checked a million threads!

I know I found the answers to this on here somewhere but alas I can't find it now! Twisted Evil

I read about a common spot for corrosion of the air con pipes - near a wheel arch?- and have someone coming to look at the air con tomorrow and just wanted to point them in the right direction before they simply re-gassed Sad

Any ideas where this pipe is or the location of a good thread as I can't find it via the search Rolling Eyes

Think it only affects cars with rear air-con?

its only a base so I don't have aircon switches in the rear - so it might just need a re-gas then? Razz

rear air con compressor and its pipes are located inside left rear quarter panel, remove panel on that side (where jack would be on other side). Think only HSE in some years has it as standard though.

once i get off the phone i'll take some pice - had my aircon reapired and regassed last week - it was a corroded pipe

only showed up on a hydrogen test. most aircon places will just put in dye and regas - mine leak didnt show up with the dye.

EDIT

This pic shows where the aircon pipes are. Just behind and inside the sill on the LHS where the wheel arch meets the sill

The picture is a bit out of focus but it should give you an idea. There are two pipes - one larger than the other. It is usually the smaller one which develops a leak where it joins the metal pipe. in this picture you can see a metel connector has been put in place to repair the join - its a very fiddly job as the crimpers are big and the space restricted. You need to remove the metal bracket first. There isnt much play at all.

If you are in the Bristol area I can put you intouch with a very good mobile aircon chap - he reaklly knows his stuff - But he talks too much Yawn - he said he had reapired loads of D3s with rear aircon and he told me where the leak was likely to be as soon as he got out of his van Thumbs Up

The other vunerable spot for rear air con pipes is about halfway along the run, again on the nearside, just in front of the air compressor

Another join, which is prone to failure/damage whilst off roading Crying or Very sad
