Can you tell me where the ac pressure switch is please that is something I Will check before changing compresser.

It is getting a voltage but not energising. You should hear a distinctive clunk (click) as the compressor kicks in on a switch on request.

It is possible to change the clutch although far from easy. YouTube is a good place to start.

Just a thought.


The D3 a/c pump is unlike that of a standard old car and is not a simple on/off clutch jobby, it is a variable displacement compressor, google it actually quite interesting

Edit I forgot to say the a/c pump also runs off a PWM signal and not straight 12volt as per the clutch variety.

Do you think the ac pressure switch May have a fault,would that stop the compresser from working

Havent a clue, will at the very least need plugging in for codes/values to see whats what.

Had it plugged in and no faults showed up some other faults we're there but nothing to do with ac problem and so was cleared, so it looks like a compresser replacement Big Cry

If your compressor is getting a 12v feed then your pressure switch is telling the car there is enough pressure in the system as it cuts the feed if the pressure drops low,
I just had an X5 in with the exact same fault and the coil for the clutch had failed and it’s very simple to check with a multimeter, disconnect the feed wire and put 1 probe in the compressor side of the feed wire and put the other probe to the body of the compressor and you should get continuity (your sparky will know) if not then it’s def the coil, my customer opted for an eBay special with a 30 day w-tee and it’s been spot on but you obviously need to have the gas emptied and refilled to allow you to change the whole compressor but you don’t if you change only the coil. Thumbs Up

Thanks sharply the spark said there's power going to the compresser so it looks like a compresser replacement.
Is there any special tools for the job or is it a case of time and patients.
And is there a step-by-step guide to doing the job,any links
