Air con not working

Hi all
My 55 plate disco 3 air con has never worked since I bought the car, it’s fully gassed and holding the gas in but not blowing cold air out, and strangely seems to blow warmer if the econ light is out (compressor running) with the light on it’s colder but not cold enough Big Cry

How can I tell if the compressor is running, I can’t hear it start up? Is it fused separately and is it common for the fuse to blow?

Any thoughts from anyone gratefully received

Cheers

Press auto and set temp to 16 and then with engine running lift the bonnet and after a minute or so the two bare alloy pipes near the battery box should get cold, one gets a lot colder than the other.

I’ll give that a try later, did I read somewhere that by pressing a series of buttons you could hard reset the climate control?

Have a look at the front of the compressor and see if everything is rotating while the engine is running. They can seize and break the compressor drive off.
While running, the larger pipe on the passenger side should be fridge cold to the touch, the other warmish.

Regards
Steve

Is there a separate fire for the a/c? I can’t see one in the manual list?

The climate control ecu/switchpack controls the compressor, so if blower, flaps etc function then the compressor control is supplied with power, assuming it gets there. Check the front of the compressor & pipes, as suggested first.

Steve

The electric clutch may have failed in the compressor?

It is getting a voltage but not energising. You should hear a distinctive clunk (click) as the compressor kicks in on a switch on request.

It is possible to change the clutch although far from easy. YouTube is a good place to start.

Just a thought.

Excepting the clutch change is a very much cheaper than replacing the whole compressor. It is possible if you do not have a budget for the whole compressor Sad
