airbag light/seat belt pretenioner/seat removal

had car in for service and asked them to check the airbag light as on,it has done it before and was wire under seat.
they ran out of time after checking wiring but on diognastics it said seat belt pretensioner issue.they said would have to remove the seat check the wiring harness and fit a dummy tensioner to check if fault clears.
all this i am told will cost £200 plus,
my question is,
is it easy and fool proof to remove the seat and fit a new pretensioner(which i presume is the bit the seat belt clicks into) as i am told they are about £40.
so its got to be cheaper to try it as opposed to paying the higher amount.
i also take it disconnecting things i could not set the aifbag off.
also would i need any special tool.
thanks
dave

Pretensioner

Hi, I saw your post regarding airbag warning light and pretensioner, you didn't get a reply but i think i have the same fault on my 05 Disco 3. The dealer has quoted around £ 300 but i don't want to spend that sort of money at the moment. What was the outcome of your issue ?

Thank you

Jonathan

Have a look under the seat, check if the socket where wire loom goes if thats secure. To prevent airbag going disconect battery. See my gallery some photos of front seats be it Rrsport seats very similiar.Removal of seats are fairly easy, cant see why it repuires £200.?

Wow you certainly arn't afraid of wading in there. I've checked all the wiring under the seat but nothing seems adrift. The only socket i could find unplug was the two pronged one at the back in the middle that goes to the seatbelt socket. There is a large box at the front but i can't seem to open it. Tried prodding around but nothing seems loose. Its a manual seat not electric.

Looking at my original manual and RRS electric seat the seat belt tensioner appear to be the same, maybe worth looking at this: http://disco3.co.uk/forum/topic50795.html?highlight=airbag more reading and search for airbag I am afraid...... Whistle
