Nice lemony smell, does what it says on the tin. Contains a germ killer to zap the rubbish in your condensor etc. Used it a couple of times.

No no no no no! About as imprecise as these things get, and the contents are not something you want to breathe in. If your A/c isn't blowing cold get a proper automotive A/c company to look at it.
As for air still coming through, it will unless you turn the climate controls to recirculate - that will stop air coming through the vents. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

You could make sure something hasn't rolled into the vents under the front seats and died. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I have used the cleaner/sanitizer products in the past and they work for about 1 week. Then the smell comes back . I even had mine professionally cleaned (on my last car) and this worked for about 3 weeks. In the end the final solution was to sell the car and buy a D3
Apparently the root cause of the smell is bacteria build up in the condensor unit. I was told that generally this can be prevented by keeping your a/c on all of the time. If you have long spells with the A/c off then bacteria builds up and can be a total 'er to get rid of. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond
Sadly Gone : MY08 D3 TDV6 HSE : Stornoway + Alpaca + Privacy + BAS Remap

Yep - there's really no need to ever turn the climate control off in the D3. The smell will be from the nasty things growing in the condensor and it is very difficult to get rid of completely once it gets bad enough to notice.
If you use the climate all the time, you'll notice that the D3 automatically increases idle speed in warmer weather to prevent the condensor temperature from getting too high and allowing vapour to form inside it.
Forte do a good sanitizing spray that is a good idea to use when you change the cabin filter and doesn't go amiss to treat it every 12 months anyway (cabin filter is normally only changed every 24 months).
