My question would be is the MY16 OBD version an alive tuning map or are there options? If its alive tuning then I take it Mikey can do it for me via the IID or is it better to have it done onsite so to speak?

Sorely tempted to have my SDV6 MY12 engine remapped. I had my D2 remapped and it was brilliant. The mpg did suffer as I suddenly became a more enthusiastic driver!

I have concerns about mpg, my Warranty Direct warranty and with Insurance.

Can anyone who has had a remap comment on the Warranty or Insurance implications and how you dealt with both or either of those. Ta.

ive had previous Evoque and Freelander 2 remapped.

by rights you should inform your insurance company, as in the event of a claim its discovered you had it remapped it will most probably invalidate your policy.
the same goes for warranty companies, although IIRC Alive Tuning at their HQ in Louth have an agreement with LR main dealers close to them to still honour the LR warranty. Im not sure the same could be said for aftermarket warranty companies.

any remap will put transmission components under additional strain which could over time adversely affect the car, but if you use a reputable company then those stresses are kept within tolerances. This is the reason that warranty companies will use to avoid pay out.

I went to get my 2010 remapped at a local Alive agent but sadly its one of the ones that needs ECU out and sent over to Alive HQ so I have put it on the long finger for now. Shame as ai was looking forward to trying it out.

Yes, it can be done by ODB Thumbs Up

IID won't apply an Alive map, and I'm not sure if its supported with BAS. That side has gone very quiet on the subject...

I have claimed on WD policies on vehicles that have been remapped. All about the wording of the claim, without being dishonest Whistle Thumbs Up

The earlier cars are still ECU out, but it sounds as though that agent does not have the equipment to do in house...

From what Milkey just said above its not doable at this time via IID Tool but can be programmed at an alive centre via OBD i would presume.

Also from wording above no discounts as Alive themselves must set the pricing - presuming again really. Thumbs Up

What are the thoughts on TDI tuning ? Seems to be plug in OBD box and app controlled ??

Any feedback on the reaction/cost from the insurance company?

A box relies on "altering" the feedback to the PCM, to ramp up the fuel pressure

While it does make more power, it does put higher stresses on the HPFP and fuel injectors, and because of these false signals, may prevent the PCM from backing things off if pressures/temperatures become critical

Essentially, a tuning box is overwriting the safety features within the ECU to prevent self destruction. A (proper!) remap leaves all these safety features in place Thumbs Up

My D4 16MY insurance went from £575 to £300 when I declared the map, sliders, tyres etc. Crazy that.
