I too drive to the alps every winter. Last year my duratecs were perfectly adequate

I also use Duratracs on my Amarok, and despite often terrible conditions up to our apartment (often inches of packed ice/snow) I haven't had to select 4x4.....it just trundles up in RWD.
See it every year without fail. The foreign registered cars driving up the approach roads to the ski resorts slowing up all the traffic behind because of the wrong tyre choice. Frustrating as hell when you're only going up for the days skiing and every minute counts.
