Scorpion ATRs Pressures/Feel issues

Hi,

Im not getting on well with my Scorpion ATRs, most of my use is road but I went with ATRs as I use the disco to tow my Elise to Hillclimbs etc and need to get out of wet hilly fields.

The tyres on it were the less extreme (OEM spec) scorpions and they handled very well, felt solid and secure in any conditions. The ATRs feel iffy over 60mph, the car seems to be very susceptible to side winds and just a bit "wobbly". Looking at them the tyres are on 36psi but look a bit flat with a very long footprint. That makes them good off road but Im not quite happy with the balance. Note this is without the trailer on, its not really an issue at towing speed.

Is this general, do people run at higher than book pressures to alleviate this etc.

Do I just need to accept that with off road focus tyres I need to drop my expectations bout top end handling?

I've run ATR's for close to 200k miles and swear by them, occasional supply issue aside. There should be little noticeable on road handling between them and the Zero's. If you're really pushing on, steering feel isn't as good as the Zero's, but that's about it.

I find 36psi Front and 40psi Rear works well for me and means I don't have to worry about adjusting the pressures unless I'm going to carry a really heavy load.

Is the pressure gauge you're using accurate?

Swear by ATRs too. No noticeable difference on road for me between them and Zeros

I tend to run at 35/38 but have noticed a significant difference between tyre gauges, particularly those on garage forecourts.

ATR's do wear well, but I find the hard compound gives a fair bit of 'rumble' on some road surfaces at speed. Anyone else found this?

I've had 2 sets of Pirelli Scorpion ATRs before, first set was great but I wasn't impressed with the second set. Ride on the 2nd set was harsh so I wonder if they were factory seconds. My current tyres are Bridgestone D697 LT. I don't find the Scorpions or the Bridgestone tyres noisy at all.
