AMK air suspension compressor

Quick one . . . . with the AMK air suspension compressor do you need the software flash AND the replacement relay, or will replacing the relay be sufficient to have the compressor functioning correctly?

You'll need the software but some do work ok without it.
Relay is changed only as a precaution to prevent running too long if it sticks. Wink

Don't use the AMK compressor with the Hitachi software.
The reason for the change is because the exhaust valve current is half on the AMK compressor.
The Hitachi draws about 1 amp when the exhaust valve is open. The software current limits to 1 amp, (by quickly switching the power on & off).

The AMK compressor only needs 0.5 amps for the exhaust valve. The new AMK software limits the current to 0.5 amps.
You will be using twice as much current using the old software which can damage the AMK exhaust valve.

Some will stick it, but a lot fail. Hence the warning on the box to change software.

I have double checked this with the Pico oscilloscope.

On a related matter, I've just picked up an AMK compressor unit from a disco that suffered a catastrophic engine failure (after what he spent on it I feel for the guy), and am planning to clean it up and replace the dessicant filler, filters etc. As I think my one is on the way out this'll be the replacement at some stage.

When replacing the compressor, what are the views on replacing the valve units that are part of the suspension system? How often are they the cause of problems, suffer seizures etc, or do they just go on forever and rarely fail? I notice that you can buy the washer seals that go inside - is it a pain of a job to dismantle them and replace these?

I assume you mean the valve blocks?
They do leak sometimes internally, but perhaps best to wait until you have an issue before pulling them apart when they are perfectly ok.

Also, as typically they just need a clean to remove the white dust (broken down desiccant from the compressor air dryer) you can just buy a reconditioning kit on eBay for about £18 which will contain all of the replacement o-rings for all three valve blocks.
