Amk Compressor rebuild attempt

Has anyone successfully rebuilt an Amk Compressor thats been down on pressure and putting the Normal Height only light on the dash? It appears that its impossible to seperate the crank from the conrod without snapping it! Spoken to various d3 owners who have said it cant be done!
Mines a 2016 and i thought they were built to last! Well longer than a couple of years anyway?
Be interesting what others thoughts are on this?

No it can't be split. That said you shouldn't need to as the piston and cylinder are quite durable. Clean all the muck off and replace the desiccant and filters. Have a look at the pic below, you can see white powder corrosion on the plate caused by a poor O ring seal. Clean thoroughly taking care not to remove the anticorrosion coating. If in any doubt about the O ring, a thin smear of something like Tech 7 around the seal will prevent it from leaking again. Pop it back together and it should be good as new, but bench test with a strong 12v battery to confirm motor is OK

Hi yes i did that what you have said! It was pushing just below 6bar, should be 18 according to what i read somewhere! Think its a poor design! Especially when folk are selling rebuild kits for them but they cant be rebuilt!

There are differing opinions on here as to AMK v Hitachi. Personally I think both are good, but have a personal preference for the AMK. A lot of these have been consigned to the bin needlessly.

Of those I have refurbed its nearly always its either shot desiccant, leaking O ring or both. What really kills both compressor types is system leaks which cause the compressor to run continually, and burning it out.
You should see the pressure rise fairly quickly to around 1760kPa in live values once its back on the car. Thumbs Up
