That was going to be my next question Ian, my other one was has the new element been shoved into the housing then screwed on ?
I'm sure you don't know the answer to this but I could see why this might occur as it comes off in the housing but goes in with no housing, which is basically what Robbie said I think ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !

We sell a very similar style filter for Peugeot/Citroen applications and you may (or not) be amazed at how often we get calls from garages (people who know what they are doing ) telling us it's the wrong filter because their one does not have the spigot on the bottom, so after talking them through it they all manage to find a broken off piece of plastic in the bottom of the filter housing.
My guess is that many garages pop the filter in the housing and just wind the top on
The power of this forum is that you all now have this knowledge and this knowledge is possibly much better than some of the 17 year old apprentices that are given the "easy" service jobs to do when you take your car in.

My local LR indy says they have heard of a few issues with non LR filters so they now only use LR ones just to be on the safe side. Makes you think......

Flip side of the coin for me. DIY = Destroy It Yourself.
Will not even think of changing my own oil. Waaaaaaaaaay too risky. All IMHO of course.

We've all seen the results of your painting Del, so on that basis, I think you are very wise Mark.

Though I normally blame painting faux pas on SWMBO. Though that may be glossing over the issue.

Hmm wonder if it's possible to fit the D4 filter housing (1 to 6 in Robbies diagram) to the D3 assuming the block etc is basically the same .
