Anybody tried ContiCrossContact UHP

Time to change my General Grabber 295/45/20's for new rubber, ideally i would like the same again (great alround on-road tyre). I'm having trouble sourcing fully fitted units locally & Blackcircles seems to have stopped offering this tyre as well.

Having a look round for suitable alternatives (which don't involve re-mortgaging the house) the above tyre seems to come out as very resonable. I can source a fully fitted CONTINENTAL - CROSS CONTACT UHP 295/45/20 for 145 a corner, but i can't find a definative answer on the load rating.

Any got any experience of this tyre & its on-road performance?

Andrew

Edit Just confirmed that they are 114W rated

Well seeing as continental own General tyres i would be surprised if they are much different TBH, maybe they are changing the tyres onto the continental brand in Europe as it is possibly seen as a better brand name, cue the increase in price Thumbs Up

SJR - I agree the change of brand name seems to make sense to the more recognisable Conti name - but the tyres look completely different.

AJS - I'm looking for a fully fitted option unfortunatley (for Somerset to you is quite a trip), but thanks for the offer anyway. Do you have any opinions on the ContiCrossContacts?

cheddar - grabbers and conti's in 295/45x20 are completely different tread pattern, just owned by the same group.

As Al said they are different tread patterns, from my experiance the Conti is not as good in the wet as the General's, the General's are available for mail order at £440.00 plus VAT and carraige, I very much like the General UHP, very quite on the road with good all round grip.

I used to run Conti Cross Contacts, I then moved on to the Grabber UHP.
For me the ride was like 'floating on a cloud' versus the Conti's.
Having said that, the Conti profile was 40 versus the 45 of the Grabber, so ride difference could have been down to that.

Personally I'm more delighted with my Cooper LTZ's.
For me, road handling is as good as the Grabbers [with no extra road noise] plus being an AT you can venture off road.
Also I'm secure in the knowledge that I have a tyre to suit whatever the road or weather conditions throw at it.

thanks for your various wisdom - i agree that the Grabber is the better alround choice, i was only considering the Conti as local availabilty seems to be slim. That said a local indi has rang me back this morning to confirm that he can get them for 165 a corner fully fitted, which is more than i paid last time but i appreciate tyres have gone up in price since then (why is that?)

isnt it worth getting a set mail order and then just getting them fitted locally?
