Anyone able to confirm oil pump type.....

While I’m 99% sure this isn’t the strengthen oil pump can anyone confirm 100% from the photos? Just seems to me it has been changed at some point because it’s not as dirty as the rest of the block and surround area. Begs the question why when the Cambelt was done by the pervious owner or so the service book says (done at 92k now on 146k) would you change the oil pump but not fit the strengthen type?

I realise that the new one has better webbing to strengthen it, but what actually causes the old one to crack? as not all get the problem. Is it bolts done up incorrectly, the tension pulley putting too much strain on the fitting or what. If its internal to the pump then the webbing will not assist. Just interested.

Its a very valid question Globetrotter that many have sought to answer conclusively. However, the additional webbing does seem solve the problem and stop it dead from fracturing.

I have not yet heard of the current modified pump fail yet, though someone else may have a different experience. On the original pump it appears stresses over time cause the housing to eventually let go in the same place. Overtightening of the tensioner may be a factor in some cases, but there is still much debate as to why some fail and many others do not (or at least not yet)

07 production models appear to have a higher failure rate than any other year? Yet there appears to be many still running on original pumps some with high mileage too!

My own view is that the original tensioner mount is simply not up to the job, and whether it fails or not might be due to numerous factors coming together at the same time. Assembly, maintenance, driving style, Fairies, Shocked etc but I would wager that ultimately all will fail as the original pump is inadequate.
