Anyone got one of these? Dog Car Ventilation Tailgate Lock

Hi,

Looking at options for locking the Disco but leaving the tailgate open to let air circulate for the dogs if I have to leave them for 20 mins/half hour.

Anyone got one of these and do they recommend them and if so, what size?

https://www.doggiesolutions.co.uk/cool-dog...0BEALw_wcB

Just think they might be handy for the odd occassions I have to leave the dogs in the car. Goes without saying, these are for the cooler days and not when the sun is burning down etc.

It's just to have a bit of air flow through the vehicle whilst they are in their dog box, for example whilst I'm having a sandwich when out beating during the shooting season or whilst doing training with one dog and the other is waiting for his/her turn etc.

I read the thread about using a screw driver to lock the mechanism to trick the vehicle, but it doesn't seem to work on a disco 4.

Can't figure out what size would be best if they're any good that is.

Cheers

Jim

Oh. Why didn't it work on the D4? I've not looked a tthe lock mechanism yet. Is it anything to do with that?

Cheers

Couldn't find anything before I posted. I'll try again though. I guess they aren't suitable for the disco 4 then?

I used a unit like this on the D3 but it hooted the horn as you locked the car. On the D4 it did not lock when I tried it.

Then I noticed the eye in the end of the rod was only deep enough to allow the first latch to catch and not going in far enough to engage the second part. I now use a padlock with a very long hasp to engage both parts of the lower tailgate lock and lock the eye on the end of the rod in the padlock . The car then sees the tail gate is correctly closed and allows the car to lock.

Mine seemed to fit but the car wouldn’t lock, all cured now though.

I have one. Discos need a special version with a slightly longer bottom hook (same cost AIR). Use it quite often and it's very useful.

Hi,
I bent a thick length of welding wire/rod to look like a very large paper clip on a RRS Whistle

locate in bottom catch first to close the lock then into the the top hook part

I only wanted it to keep the top tale gate open about 300mm to stop one of the dogs jumping out, it worked fine and I could lock the car if needed, maybe not as secure as what your looking at but a simple fix for what I wanted

Thumbs Up

if you get one then you need to do the 'other' bit of security too otherwise it leaves it vulnerable Thumbs Up

All you have to do is flatten the stem section of the ventlock by the eye and it will engage the locking mechanism fully

You do get vent locks which are made specifically for the Discovery. I bought one at a dog show.

Basically it has a flat end to push into the lock.
