Thanks, they look to be the exact same ones, so Good news there!

On my current halogen units the top right lamp is the main light and the bottom left lamp is the side-light. There is then an orange indicator in the very bottom right (which looks to be the same in your photo) and above this on the right hand side three little holes for bulbs (likewise your photo) I got the impression these were the cornering lights??

What is the bottom left lamp used for on the HID units?

The photo is from your gallery. I have xenons on my car, as far as I'm aware it dosn't have side lights, I've only seen the DRL on which are the signature lights, they are very bright, almost as bright as fog lights. The bottom left looking at the photo is the LED indicators, but they may be side lights as well as they do change colour when switched on.
The bottom right and along the bottom is clear with facility to fit a bulb(corner light). I also have the three LEDs that don't light.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks, on closer look although they appear to be identical, ‘my’ hid units don’t have the orange indicator bulb in the bottom right corner.

So the bottom left lamp in the halogen unit becomes the indicator in the hid unit, and possibly the hid units don’t have sidelights because they have DLRs instead..!

Thanks again for all your help, I’ll try and order the hid units tomorrow, all being well will be able to fit them at the weekend!!

Xenons do not work at all in a D4 unless they are enabled first, so you will need access to a diagnostic tool. The advice given earlier applies to a D3 only.

Exactly that. The big round bottom left lamp is the DRL in the halogen version which is why the indicator is bottom right on the halogen (as you look at the picture previously posted).

The three little holes that look like LEDs aren't anything on Euro spec cars, not even any bulbs in them. On US spec vehicles there are amber LEDs in them for the side marker lamps that are required in the US.

There is no knockout to add cornering lamps on facelift lamps like there is on a D3, someone posted about trying to do it a few days ago and concluded it was almost impossible without dismantling the whole lamp.

Even on the xenon version the big round indicator isn't LED, it's another very unusual almost LR specific yellow filament bulb behind the frosted round opaque lens.

I stand to be corrected, the so called LEDs must be a very good imitation and I can't see why they have done it. Bow down I much prefer the the extra light of the driving lamps.
The DRL can be switched on/of by:
ignition off, lights off;
ignition on, lights on low beam;
Turn lights off;
Press and hold rear fog light switch for more than 2secs.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

So - I've ordered the facelift HID units, should be with me tomorrow!

Wont be any use until I can activate them with the IID tool, but this is also hopefully arriving tomorrow.

I will wait until the weekend to fit & activate them though as can tell already this wont all be a 5 minute job....!

Thanks for everyone's help!
