Arggh, nasty scratch
Not happy, managed to catch the D4 on a signpost at the station car park yesterday. Never spotted it in the mirror as I was reversing into a parking bay. The sign is actually loose and leaning at an angle thus encroaching into the space. I will be trying to take this up with Network Rail but don't expect any joy.
Any tips on removing the scratch from the glass? I need to get the paintwork done and the associated small dent but don't really want the expense of a new piece of glass if I can avoid it. It's privacy glass and I've tried cutting polish but it's not touched it.

It will buff out and I'm not being sarcastic, once it's cleaned a dual action polisher with a fine polish will reduce most if not all of that.

The offending sign, the Corsa nipped in after I moved to take the picture! Obviously my fault for not paying attention but anyone reckon I can claim off the council/rail authority for the sign being wonky and thus a risk to users of the car park?

I don't know, but if the sign encroaches in to the space then you have at least got a case. Might be worth revisiting the site with a plumb bob to measure exactly how far over the white line the edge of the sign is.

Is it the glass that's scratched, or is it the tint film?
I'd be surprised if a sign (probably aluminium) could gouge glass.
If it is the film, you will have to get that one window re-covered.Richard

Do you not have any proffesional valets , near you who you could take it to for advice
Save, keep buying polishes to try and not suceed, let them try a few of their products, can't see it costing much.
I have rang a mate who does this type of thing,and he says that from te picture he cannot tell if it will be able to be removed, but as a rule, if you run your fingernail over it and it catches, it is likely the scatch will be too deep to polish out and get an unnoticeable perfect image finish
He says there are products on the market that refill the scratch and give a good finish, but depends how finicky you are on the end result as it will never be perfectThere is no I in team, but there are five in Individual Brilliance

Try WD 40 it works on scratches but maybe not on one so deep I dunno
But looking at the sign it encroaches on the space , I would be sending a bill to the car park for sure

crack it go thro insurance a lot of policies you go free on glass..

Annoying when something like this happens, if the scratch is deep and it has taken a lump of glass out with it you might struggle to take the bad look off it. It depends how deep it is.

I've put a claim in against the council who erected the sign, they have been helpful so far and are putting it through to their insurance claims team so will see what happens.
The body has a scratch too, a small chip of paint missing and a small dent too so needs a bit of sorting.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
