If I bought one and used it on my D3, could I also use it on my friends D3.
anyone know?
You should be able to use it on the full landie range, d1,d2,d3,d4 range rover defender etc etc
You get one free licence with your purchase then each other vehicle manufacturer is a further purchase.
Oh right, I might give it a try, I am thinking of buying an original TT convertible for a bit of fun and have been looking at plug in testers for that, I have a IId for D3 but a backup is always useful. David

Always anticipating problems!! But nothing majoy at the moment thankfully. The main thing is getting a spare key sorted. Far too paranoid about losing the only one I have.

It’s good having the 2 keys, I have my key programmed to my seating and mirror position. The other half has hers up to the wheel.

Ok, so ordered the Autel MaxiAP AP200 (~£44) for my discovery 3, primarily on the hope that it would program a second key.
It arrived in about a week or so, maybe less. After signing up with my email and downloading the discovery file (just under 200Mb I think), it's all plug and play, as jenseneverest has already alluded to.
My discovery is the base model S, so doesn't have some features, but I was able to read and clear codes no problem.
No affiliation whatsoever with this company. Nearly bought one from AliExpress (~£5 i think), but was too worried about the general quality and functionality. The key seems fine, was a bit worried at first as the spring mechanism for the key seemed a bit stiff, but I'm hoping it will losen up a bit over time - just me being picky really!
Tried to program the fob before getting the key cut not considering part of the sequence would be to insert the key into the ignition!!!!
So, got the key cut locally (cost £18. The guy didn't have any negative comments on the quality of the metal, which was one of his main concerns when I told him the key didn't come direct from LR) and I then programmed them both - the sequence to complete this is probably less than 2mins. Both keys work great. Very glad to now have a spare!
All in all, for the price, it's a handy piece of kit that can program keys!!! It's good to be able to get sight of what may be going on within.
I'll see how things go as I use it more over time.

Looking at this but it seems there was a lot of problems with the software (according to the net) - did you have any problems with it (downloading and running the LR3 program).

No problems at all. I had to connect to WiFi to do it, but it is just shy of 200Mb. Downloaded and installed all within the app.
The whole app feels a bit slow when moving from service functions to diagnostic functions etc. But not sure how other systems are so don't have anything to compare to.
It does everything I wanted it to without any problems. I.e. read codes and program keys.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it doesn't do suspension. Can anyone elaborate?
I currently have a disco 3 sitting on it's bump stops in the garage. I am considering what to do with it and if I can find out why it's on its bump stops it will influence what I will do with the car.
If I understand correctly, if it is the height sensors, the suspension will need calibrating when they are replaced, so it would put a different complexion on my problem if his unit can calibrate the suspension.
Cheers.

It does have the suspension service option, although I have not used it as I do not have any problems. I did look, and was tempted to try it (stopped by "don't fix what isn't broken"), but I guess you would need 100% level ground to do so... If I can find a suitable spot, I will aim to have a look over this next week and let you know.

I agree, the GAP IID sounds excellent, but is pricey - even if you do sell it on afterwards. Unfortunately I don't have a spare £400, otherwise that would have been the route I took. I do however hope to get one in due course.

Buying the iid is an option, I am struggling with the price tag as well because I am likely to sell the disco if I can get it back on the road with no warning lights on the dash.
Perhaps for the price I should buy it and give it a go. If it will tell me which sensors are knackered at least that's a start.
