Auto Box Oil flush - How To |
|
Want to flush the auto gear box this weekend. Where to start?
Where do you refill the oil and where do you drain it?
Anyone with piccies or a "How To"
Probably I should take some pics and post it in the Wiki afterwards. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Stu wrote:I did the gearbox double flush today and I bought the oil from Millersoils. You need Millermatic DM. It's meant to hold 6 litres so I got 15 litres for about £75. Doing the double fush is very easy (if you have some way of getting the oil back in, the hole is small and is on the side of the sump.
To do the job:
1 Run the engine to warm the oil
2 Stop the engine, drain the oil and refil until the oil comes out (the oil smells pretty bad).
At first we could only get 2.5 litres back in, so we ran the engine a bit and went through the gears, after that we got another couple of litres in.
Ran the engine again for 5 - 10 mins, and repeated the procedure.
We were going to remove the sump tray (which has a built in filter) but the bolts were going to be a b ch to undo so opted not to do this yet as I didn't have any spare bolts to replace them with. I got the sump tray from TLO and it cost about £50.
I have about half the oil left so there should be enough to redo this again when I've got the bolts so I can stick the sump tray back on.
The car drives much much better now and the revs no longer surge. I only had mild juddering when the car was loaded and I was trying to accelerate up hill, but this also appears to have gone.
All in all a very easy job, although having a ramp and oil pump for the new oil made life easy.

I had my auto box flushed professionally this week by a gear box specialist. Doing it myself was an option but got an offer for €350 for a complete flush of the entire box, pipes, cooler, etc, and new pan filter. They use ultra sonic vibrations to get all dirt out.
For an extra €100 they changed all transmission fluids (diff, etc).
What a difference! Vibrations are gone and shifts smooth as butter again. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

No I don't think so. You can't overfill it. When you add oil you stop when no more oil can be added through the filler hole. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

in the guide - I've got confused by this two statements in the FLuid Level check:
CAUTION: The gearbox fluid level must only be checked when the temperature of the fluid is between 30
degrees and 50 degrees. The fluid level obtained will be incorrect if the reading is outside this temperature
range.
and in the next couple lines this:
CAUTION: Make sure the transmission fluid temperature is below 30 degrees before starting the fluid
level check.
So what should be the temp in order to do the level check? between 30-50 or below 30? 2013 D4 TDV6 S; Baltic Blue; IID Tool BT
