Hi,
Common problem of the brakelight bulbs causing all the symptoms you describe, I have even seen it when the lights appear to work ok, renew the bulbs & all ok.
There is a special service message about this syaing check bulbs before any further diagnostics
.

At least this instills confidence that when I've had a blown bulb I've taken it to a dealer whilst passing.
Cos I know bulbs can throw up all sorts of issues.
The dealers sort it all out for me at £16 a time.

Odd thing was the bulb was working, so it was finding it's earth via the sidelights. Up until this evening the only fault I had was the gearbox wouldn't change gear. If I hadn't had all those extra warning later on I wouldn't have even thought about checking the bulbs.
Thanks to BAS tuning as well

I've had them where the filaments touch together, also had them where the brake light element is only just slightly loose on it's earth tag, (i.e. not holding it firmly if you look inside of the bulb).

Finally got a chance to look at the bulb in more detail, the tags which hold the filaments had warped and were touching each other causing them to short. This was why the bulb still worked.
Just like yours Steve

Strange, such a big issue over such a minor failure.
I can see dodgy dealers with out of warranty vehicles saying:
"Ah sir, we had to change the transverse selecting spring coupling mechanism".
Then charging hundreds of pounds, when all they do is replace a bulb!
Cynical, who me ? I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Re: Auto Gearbox gets stuck in 1st |

I am from Poland and I have a LR3. I have a similar problem with my LR3. First gear in my automatic transmission does not change to second gear until the fuel cutoff at 4,500 revolutions per minute. I read that you had the same problem in your LR3. Did you manage to find a solution? LR Service could not help me, the computer does not show any errors. I'm very please help.
regards
Tom

I've got/had the same problem with holding on to 1st gear. It seemed to start in the really cold weather but still does it every now and then in >1deg c temps.
I thought about the brake system confusing the gear selector electronics as sometimes the brake lights take a second or two to come off when the brake pedal is released (seen in reflections in rear view mirror
Only happens after a complete stop and no fault codes as dealer has checked for me. May go and check the cable assembly. Apart from this the box is smooth as usual and I have 93k on the clock. 2010 D4 XS family car
