Auto Glass - Useless!
So Autoglass came this morning to fit my lovely new window screen after messing me around last time they showed up on time and started the job. I wasn't able to oversee them fitting it but checked that the new screen was the Pilkington glass I specified when booking and that new side trims would be used and new wipers would be fitted etc. All was confirmed to be correct. 1.5hrs later the two techs came to the office and got me I went out to find they have fitted the wrong glass even though they assured me it was the Pilkington I specifically requested. They also admitted to denting the roof just above the window screen and have peeled about 20cm worth of lacquer off by using "the wrong tape" for the suckers to sit on. They should've use a masking tape but used super adhesive "tough tape".
So to conclude for my £50.00 insurance excess I have missing paint a dent and the wrong window screen! Been to local main dealer and they want just under £1000 to repair the damage. Look out Autoglass you have a claim coming!

Used auto glass twice during the summer on different cars and had excellent service both times.
Regrettably it does seem what you get is down to the gentlemen who turn up to do the job.
You seem to have been extremely unlucky.
Best of luck with you claim.

Window screen eh, that's a new one.
There's been many problems with after market screens Mikeyb, mainly the screen heating elements, so the general advice is go for a Pilkingtons as these are the brand fitted by LR.Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails

I'm not scared, I'm outta here.

Great.... yesterday Autoglass fitted a new screen to my D3, I bet it's not a Pilkington then!
The guy fitting did say that it (including the trim and heating elements etc.) were fully guaranteed for as long as I own the vehicle. Not read any small print yet though...Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Read this and thought “ah... lemons screen doesn’t de mist properly... I wonder” and yes you’ve guessed. She’s got an aftermarket screen. Which doesn’t work properly.
Question is.... if it were to become cracked.... could I specify a pilkington screen on the claim ? Hypothetically speaking of course. Jarrod

Unless you’ve got a very nice insurance company and a car <3 years old, I’d suggest it’s almost certain that you’d get another Chinese copy.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

My windscreen cracked in March. Insurers sent Autoglass. I requested Pilkington (having read the advice on here) but they turned up with a no brand alternative. Apparently “you get whatever the closest depot has and is cheapest” according to the guy who installed mine.
He was into Land Rovers and was great with the actual fitting. He said the glass is getting thinner (and lighter) - Autoglass used to require Land Rover windscreens to be a two person job but now it’s a single person job.
I had no problems with the heating elements.

Same for me, my car was deemed too old for original glass so got some cheaper Chinese version. Allegedly it is the same product but without pilkington written on it. Been fine to be fair but I did push them for pilkington and they wanted £200 contribution.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

NFU had a Pilkington replacement screen fitted when my car was 10 1/2 years old.

I’ve only heard good things about NFU - but that’s impressive service.

Personally I think people get too precious about replacement screens. Both my non Pilkington replacement screens have been fine and all elements worked as designed. Fitting and customer service were good as well.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
