Auto or manual
Hi
I am deliberating over an auto or manual D£ XS (S/H) regarding fuel consumption.
The stealer says not much to choose from really because the auto will use the engine better than you!!
Your thoughts/figures please
Regards

Manual for an average of 28.3 all sorts of motoring over the past year.
Manual averaging just over 31mpg with mixed driving over the last 1000 miles or so.

Drive both and then decide which you like best
3 mpg difference isn't really worth basing the decision on.
For me the Auto suits the car better and makes it a more refined machine all round but go on what you like to drive the most 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

If you assume a difference of 3 mpg between auto and manual (by no means proven) and do the average of 12,000 miles pa, then that's a cost difference of about £290 per year at today's price of diesel. Is that too much to pay for the smoothness, luxury and convenience on a £30,000 car? No contest as far as I'm concerned. It's a brilliant auto box that makes great use of the limited power, effortlessly. And do the manuals sell as well as the autos second hand?

If you look at re-sale you will save that much on an auto as the manuals are harder to shift as well.
Go for an auto .

Says it all really!

Transgenic tomato anyone?
Has anyone actually had trouble selling a manual over an auto or is it the usual case of being suckered by the salesmans spiel when he makes more money out of you on an auto The End

No idea, but you can sell anything at the right price.
