Auto won't change gears - Can't turn off engine when stop. |
|
2006 TDV6 Auto S with air suspension and Terrain Response, active rear diff
First happened about 12 months ago (to me) and twice in the last couple of weeks (to my wife).
Start up, drive off, auto won't change gears - no error messages or warning lights.
Can change gears manually.
Come to halt, into park - TDV6 won't turn off.
Open and close a front door. Engine will now turn off. Re-start and all is normal!
As it has only happend the once to me I can't say which gear it holds, whether 'D' shows in instruments, what shows when change gears manually.
Any ideas???? 'S' TDV6, Air suspension, Terrain Response, Active rear diff, Safari Snorkel, Opposite Lock rear wheel carrier, OL drawer system, Cargo Barrier, Dual batteries with Rotronics isolator, GME 3440 UHF. Codan NGT HF, Asus UMPC running TrackRanger. Cooper LT245/70R17 STTs when off-road. Tow Ultimate off-road camper.

Had the same and to quote a popular cause, brake light bulb. The bulb was working, but the filament for the brake light was just touching the rear light filament on the bulb. No faults to start with on dash, but using code reader it came up with "brake light switch", so the car thinks you have the brakes on and so won't change gear. The interlock also stops working so the key can't be fully turned off.

Thanks for the help!!
Norto: I haven't had any recurrance of 'Transmission Fault' error - Alto thought it was to do with the dash being interface between different parts of the can bus (? in laymans terms as far as I remember of what they said??). I have since had Davis performance fit a transmission cooler and change the transmission fluid, as we are doing a lot of towing with the camper trailer. We hope to head of in March for 4 or 5 months around the bottom to the west and come back through the centre - probably 20-30k of towing
Countrywide: seems to make sense as Ann has since said that to stop the engine after she opened the doors she put her foot on and off the brake pedal. I will check the globes - which have been replaced a couple of times with aftermarket ones.
Is there a prefered globe option? Perhaps LED?
