Heated screen is just two connectors (one each side) and the rain sensor is built into the rear view mirror housing.

As long as the right screen is fitted, you will have the connectors and the sensor area clear (although I think the screen is no different to a normal heated / non heated one in this respect).

Best thing is to have a heated screen fitted where there was none before as the wiring is there still I believe.

I cracked a screen in a BM a few years back - just rang Autoglass and demanded BM part - no problem at all and no additional cost on the excess (had to wait ages in a deserted waiting room on an early Sunday morning - would never let them come to me and fit outside - added bonus I found £30 on the floor - they should have cleaned floor more often Whistle )

Checked with Autoglass today and they don't supply OEM windscreens ... well, they 'can' but apparently they charge an additional fee for this - quoted between £50-£100 extra Shocked

Had a reply from Beadles LR Sidcup who say they always use RAC Auto Windscreens and never had a problem with them - they even gave me the fitter's name to contact as he's the guy that always fits their LR screens.

Looks like I'm going to go with them Thumbs Up

Autoglass fitted a new screen for me a couple of months ago - Thats def a original part. It's a heated screen with rain sensors on. Really efficient service no problems and we've had enought rain for it to show !!

Take it to Land Rover and tell your insurer that that is where you're taking it - Period! End of chat!
I wouuldn't let some spotty 17 year old who's been on a weekend glassfitting course, clamber over my landy trying to figure out which end up it goes whilst scratching his Censored ! I've seen 'em!
Also, again, I would Demand a Land Rover windscreen - Period! Not some screen made by the lowest bidder. If your gearbox went, would you accept an imitation one? I'd want to feel safe in the knowledge that the 5mm sheet of glass 2ft in front of my face that regularly travels at 90mph, is gonna stay there and do what it was flawlessy designed for! Again, period!
Thumbs Up

TazDaz,

Long discussion here ... http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15473.html

We're happy with the result of our replacement so far (1 month since, don't know if it was Autoglass = Carglass here, and don't much care, but I don't recommend them based on past experience), and I do recommend that you put the job under the care of a dealer you trust.

Good luck! Thumbs Up

Autoglass did me a 1st class plus job on a Freelander 1 rear window (reputed to be an adjustment nightmare...)

( http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15473.html?highlight=autoglass ) - which is probably NJF's reference Embarassed

AND they said that any problems with the free fixing of my later (tiny) D3 windscreen star-crack would be fully covered by insurance, if it went worse / cracked / w.h.y.

A
2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

What warrior said Thumbs Up

Insist or tell them you'll take your business elsewhere.

Dealer is the best best (as you've checked out already) and have them state that you will have a LR supplied windscreen.

Did you get autoglass to do the screen? and if so how did they do. Mine has just cracked and the insurance company is saying if I don't use Autoglass they will only contribute £100 Shocked

....could try

RAC Windscreens....
I used them in Newcastle a couple of years ago to do a D2 heated screen - superb job not a spec of broken glass anywhere
Polite, prompt & it didn't leak.....& they had screen when I needed it
Whether the franchise quality is nationwide i don't know - but I would use them again
 BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Had RAC Windscreens out to replace mine about a year ago.
They didn't replace the windscreen clips and i've had a small puddle in the footwell for about the same time, replaced by me now and no more leaks....

RAC Windscreens....

Thanks for that data Craig...my insurance insist on RAC being used in the event of a replacement (they did pay for a chip fix at Autoglass though) fortunately (for me at least) only a seldom used thing.....

What if your screen cracked/shattered outside of the UK perhaps on a holiday in France? I've not seen an Autoglass vehicle over there.

Had RAC Windscreens replace the screen last Wednesday (at their depot) as Autoglass hadn't phoned me to say they had the screen in ..

RAC Windscreens appear to have done a good job, took about 2 1/2 hours before I could drive it away
It hasn't rained since so can't check for leaks Shocked but hopefully won't have any

Insurance price was £80 ... £30 more than if Autoglass had done it but I couldn't wait forever !

Funny thing is that yesterday an Autoglass vehicle turned up at my house "come to replace your screen, sir"
pity they didn't bother phoning me first to tell me they now had the screen in. Guy was surprised when I said "it's been done, but not by your company"
