Auxiliary battery how to?

Hi,

I've searched, to no avail, for a 'how to' guide for fitting an auxiliary battery in a D4.

I've got a MY12 (no stop start) and have a few bits from the aux battery I fitted to my Navara before it decided to snap itself in half. Every cloud, I wouldn't have had my disco if it hadn't. 8)

So, I've got cable, a Durite VSR and battery clamps etc etc. Is it just the same as I did in the Nav to fit one or is there anything to be cautious of? Will the Durite be ok on the Disco?

As for where to fit the battery, I've checked the spare battery box but am unsure what size/make/model battery would fit in there and where would I move the other bits that are in there to?

If I ran cable to the boot area and fitted it behind the plastics on the r/n/s of the boot, what size would fit comfortably in there?

I only plan on running sockets for phone charging, coolbox, additional lighting in the boot etc.

Any hints/tips gratefully received.

Cheers

Jim

I fitted one on my D4, if you search on here you should be able to find them.

You need a battery clamp for a LHD main battery, it used to be listed and was about £4 from the main dealer, but I think they've stopped making them. Try a breaker overseas.

It's very easy to do and make sure you put fuses every where you can.

Good news I can re-use what I already have. Thanks for confirming. Thumbs Up

I can't decide if to fir the battery in the rear rather than moving stuff around/out of the battery box or if to squeeze it in there. Anyone got a link to the biggest battery sizes that will fit and and photos of what and where to move stuff in the battery box to? It looks a bit of a squeeze in there. Shocked

I’ve fitted a yellow top battery in the front box and run power to the rear. I power an expedition fridge freezer with mine.

It’s just a case of rearranging the gubbins in the box. There are links on here if you do a search or try You Tube. Thumbs Up

There are quite a few posts of how to move the gubbings in the second battery box. Some very detailed ones.

You'll fit a reasonable sized battery in the spare tray in the engine bay. 75/80AH, but I'm afraid I don't know the actual dimensions the tray will fit.

I have a 75AH in the engine bay and a 105AH in the boot with the fridge etc.

This is on my list of todos. I measured and found plenty of 75, 80AH batteries that would fit.

Thanks for the link Charlie tortoise. Thumbs Up

The spare battery box does seem the logical choice.

It's just to power a cool box and a socket or two and some lights so I don't have to worry about the main battery going flat whilst parked up for any length of time.
