Back from holiday on Islay

Returned last Saturday from our (almost) annual sojourn to Islay, off of the west coast of Scotland. Have added some new pics to my gallery.

Left on Friday 20th: almost had to swim through London around the North Circ to the bottom of the M1, due to the monsoon rain. Was at least able to use all lanes on the A406, when most cars were creeping along at the shallow end. Had the wipers on full speed for SEVEN hours. Did not switch them off until we got to J36 of the M6 (which is where we normally switch them on). Thank goodness for the solidity of the D3 and being able to jack up the suspension to ford ridiculously deep puddles.

Lots of cycling, whisky tasting and beach cricket on the island. If you haven't been, go! It's a wonderful place. I love the fact that motorists nod or wave to each other. It's so civilised.

Saw loads of D3s and other LRs during the fortnight, especially of the Cairns Blue variety.

Did the return journey from Kennacraig to SW London in just under 9 hours. 515 miles. 3/4 of a tank of fuel! Still using that last quarter tank now. Car seems to have gone on a diesel diet, despite the Garmin showing that the top speed peaked at 99.7 at one point...

Only downside was that the DVD player packed in before the journey home, so we had 9 hours of I Spy, "Are we there yet?" and singing silly songs.

They were closed the day we went. But Lagavulin was open and almost welcoming, for the first time in 9 years of visiting the island. Ardbeg is still my favourite - it may have something to do with me never leaving the place sober. I know where they keep all the tasting bottles...

Magnificent place Nobby , had the good fortune to be locked in Shocked in The Lochside in Bowmore once. The owner ( whom also attended a wedding earlier with us at The Machrie) was so Censored by about 5 am that he just let us help ourselves.Watched sunup on the beach behind the pub , sozzled of course.

Beautiful island and one of my most favourite memories of Scotland.Ah to be young again Big Cry
