Balancing weights

Hi everyone,

First post - just bought a D3 HSE after a long Landrover drought.
It came with road tyres on so I'm changing them for Goodyear MT/Rs this weekend.
The chap in the garage says they recommend using the weights that clip on the rim (like it has at the moment) rather than stick-on ones inside the rim as the stick-on ones are more likely to fall off when used off road.
I'm worried that the rim will start to look tatty once it's had a few weights levered on and off.
What does everyone else do?

I've got 19MT/R's with stick on weights. If you go near rocks, yoiu're more likely to have the clip on weights broken off (IMHO) the internal ones MAY get caught my mud (possibly) but I haven't had any problems yet. You can alwyas stick gaffer tape over them (as some people do) before you go off road to give them a little more protection. Oh and welcome to the site Thumbs Up

Personally Id say the opposite ( of what your tyre man says), inside rim Good , outside clip on Bad.

My opinion is based on experience loosing external clip ons whist travelling through mud.Havent lost any stick ons ( yet)

I have two sets of tyres, both used for offroad :

the Cooper STs have the stick on wieghts and the Cooper STTs the clipons.

Ive had no issues so far with either, although the clearance between the stick ons and the caliper is only about a mm so there is a risk that if a stone got stuck in there it could pull the weights off

Thanks chaps, I'll ask for stick on ones and see what happens.
