A Bar/Winch - Any help greatly appreciated
Rang Dealer today, and asked if they had a diagram or any other details for an A Bar that incorporates a winch. Why? Well $5000 for the Winch (when the A Bar costs $1200) seems nuts to me. So, wanted to know if I can use the LR A Bar and install an after market winch onto the LR winch A Bar.
The Dealer was not able to advise, and was not able to give me a diagram of the A Bar fitting. I need details so I can figure out if I can install a winch, both in the space available, and with the bolt pattern that is on the bar. Having not seen an LR A Bar with a winch in person, and not having any close up pics, I really am in the dark here. Of course if someone can give me the details of winch that will fit, well, that would be fantastic.
There are two varients of the LR A-Bar, one can be fitted when the LR winch kit is fitted, the other not. The LR Winch kit includes a mount which fits between the "Winch" varient of the A-bar. To the best of my knowledge the winch mount is a standard sized tray as it takes a standard Warn winch, so should accept other winches of similar style.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

The A bar is a foam type thing and would support nothing more than a very light vase of flowers. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Here's a diagram showing the two A-Bar varients. The Left is the Winch version, the right the non-winch:

The winch tray/mount fits between the A-Bar uprights.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

its not mounted on the A bar, its in the bumber tray, Just the rollers show on the bumper. The A bar is'nt that strong really, the clamps go onto the steel bumper, but the 4 m10 bolts and sleeves would'nt take much to snap, and as for the plastic stabiliser brackets at top of the grill

i know its not ON the winch, thats obvious
I don't even bother with the plastic lugs, I don't need them as mine is bolted nice and tight to the bumperSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Essentially this bit
and with the bolt pattern that is on the bar
Either type of A bar has nothing to do with the actual fitting of the winch. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Fitting instructions for the A-bar and LR winch kit are on http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com which may or may not help you work it out Getafix The End

Guys
Thanks heaps for your collective thoughts. I now have a much better understanding of the situation. Now why couldn't the dealer assist. Mind boggles.
I am now in a better place to see if I can get this to all happen.
Thanks again, really appreciate your time <*(((<<

I think the problem you have, is that the a-bar has none of the winch bits, and LR sell the winch kit as a kit with the winch and mountings for $$$ - and you are trying to reduce costs.
Some people in the UK have used a home made winch bracket that someone on here knocks up, but as you are the wrong side of the world, its not going to be an economical option for you.
Question is, I wonder if the winch bracket is available as a spare part?
